Master Gardener, Owner of ‘Sean James Consulting and Design’Named by Landscape Ontario as 2020 and 2021’s Garden Communicator of the Year, gardening has been Mr. James’ hobby and profession for over 40 years. A graduate of Niagara Parks School of Horticulture, a Master Gardener, writer, and teacher, he focuses on eco-gardening techniques, which makes sense since he grew up surrounded by nature. He has spoken from the Maritimes to Seattle and landscaped from Nova Scotia to California. President and CEO at Integrity Stormwater in Spring, TXMr. Flack has earned his designations, among select thousands in the world, as a Certified Professional in Erosion & Sediment Controls (CPESC) as well as his designation as a Certified Erosion, Sediment and Storm Water Inspector (CESSWI), lending his experience and training to his customers to consult them in all their stormwater needs. He has also earned his status as a Qualified Compliance Inspector of Stormwater (QCIS) and as a Qualified Preparer of Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (QPSWPPP. He also earned the Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead (CESCL), which is a 17.5-hour certificate program as required by Washington State for all construction stormwater management. He is a subject matter expert and lead instructor for StormwaterONE, which has established itself as the leader in stormwater management training and credentialing, the school’s mission is to provide their students with the most comprehensive and up to date training of individual stormwater permits, online or in-person.
Brad has been invited to speak in-person on storm water and erosion control issues in many locations, including California, Texas, Tennessee, Louisiana, Wyoming, Oregon, Colorado, Ohio and New Mexico, as well as internationally in Antigua, Guatemala, and in San Jose, Costa Rica. Furthermore, he has provided virtual online training for wide variety organizations across the country, including the Army Corps of Engineers, Maryland Stadium Authority, and more.
Additionally, he served as president and administrative vice president for the South-Central Chapter of the International Erosion Control Association. Furthermore, he directed the IECA Region 1 Education Committee: Stormwater Management Track as co-chair, which encompasses North America, South America and Europe. Brad also sat as the Region 6 Chapter President for EnviroCert International (ECI) and was a member of the Policies and Procedures Committee for ECI. He has served as the Region 7 representative for the CPESC, Inc., group as well as the technical vice-chair for the Council. He has been an IECA Mentor and served as a TCEQ EnviroMentor.
Brad has been involved with Stormwater Quality Management since 2004 where he learned about permitting, turf establishment, erosion control and detention pond maintenance and has continued to be a student of the industry throughout his career. His attention to detail and depth of knowledge about structural control devices, vegetative stabilization and best management practices are a valuable asset to his clients and students.
His wife is his high school sweetheart, and they have been married for over 20 years and have three sons. Brad has also actively served at his church and has ventured on over a dozen mission trips, from drilling for water in rural villages in Honduras to assisting in hurricane recovery efforts in Puerto Rico. Brad was the Director of Hands and Feet Honduras/Puerto Rico, a 501(c)3 organization for over eight years.

Geotechnical Structure Design Specialist at Gradelta EngineeringMr. Simpson founded Gradelta Engineering in 2020 with the intent to help clients better understand the combination of geotechnical and structural engineering that he has worked with for the past 20 years. He earned his B.S.C.E. and M.S.C.E. degrees from Georgia Institute of Technology. He currently provides engineering services to contractors and fellow engineers for earth structure pricing, along with the plans and calculations needed for construction. He frequently consults with clients regarding the optimal structure type and location on the construction site to minimize risk and maximize useable space. He is the Environmental Team Leader for Rodgers Consulting and has over fourteen years of experience designing and providing project management over infrastructure and stormwater landscape architectural projects in New York, Delaware, Virginia and the Baltimore DC Metro area. Mr. Allison has worked on both private and public sector projects including notable projects – ICC ESCM restoration efforts, SHA TMDL stormwater design and retrofits, MD 404 Dualization, and stormwater mitigation design for the Dulles Silver Line. Mr. Allison is responsible for managing the environmental division and providing consulting services for all the land development projects within the company. His services include, preparing natural resource inventories/forest stand delineations, forest conservation plans, wetland delineations, joint permit applications and coordinate jurisdictional boundaries with Maryland Department of the Environment as well as the Army Corps of Engineers. His passion for evolving ecosystems has translated into environmentally centered design responses that reflect and uplift local habitats while providing necessary development.
Jeffrey A. Brem, P.E.
Owner and Registered Professional Engineer, Meisner Brem CorporationMr. Brem has been a registered professional engineer since 1987 in California and holds active registration in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine. He has led his own small civil engineering and land surveying practice for over 32 years with two offices and up to 28 employees. His experience includes designing private land developments, stormwater management systems, sanitary sewer systems, wastewater treatment facilities, and roadways. His firm provides land surveying, construction management, engineering site design and a host of other professional services primarily for private, for-profit companies. He has been involved in the design of over 4000 residential single-family house lots many of which were open space or cluster developments, thousands of condominium units, and over 3 million square feet of commercial/ industrial/institutional space. He has advised MassDEP in numerous task forces and committees including as a present full member of the Stormwater Advisory Committee and on the Title 5, Septic System Stakeholders Group. He is the past president, past treasurer and member of the Board of Directors for HBRAM (the Massachusetts Homebuilders Association), past president of Northeast Builders and Remodelers Association (NEBA), and a national delegate of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) based in Washington, DC. In 2024 Mr Brem was appointed by Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey to serve on the prestigious “Unlocking Housing Production Commission” to advise the Governor and the Secretary of Housing and Livable Communities on strategies and recommendations to create over 230,000 new residential units in Massachusetts over the next 10 years. He is a proud 35+ year member of the Westford Rotary Club. He has co-authored, with Harvard Law School Professors Joseph William Singer and Brandon Storm, a legal case study on real estate development entitled the Case of the Interfaith Neighbors, July 2016 (PSW021-SM01). In addition to engineering, Mr. Brem has been a land developer and homebuilder, recently constructing 25 residential homes in four separate projects in Massachusetts. Dr. Jairo Garcia
Executive Director with Urban Climate NexusDr. Jairo Garcia develops innovative policies and educational programs to make communities and cities cleaner, sustainable, resilient, and equitable. He is the lead author of Atlanta’s Climate Action Plan, and he led a collaborative effort with more than 40 stakeholders to the 100 Resilient Cities application, awarded to the City of Atlanta in 2016. Dr. Garcia is a member of the Georgia Research Roadmap steering committee, an initiative of the Georgia Climate Project lead by University of Georgia, Georgia Tech, and Emory University, which has a goal of improving understanding of climate impacts and solutions in Georgia. He received the Individual Climate Leadership Award by the EPA in 2017 and the Green Ring Award by the Climate Reality Project. These awards recognized Dr. Garcia’s leadership in addressing climate change and engaging organizations, peers, and partners. He represented the Mayor of Atlanta at COP23 in Bonn, Germany, and he presented at an event organized by the International Urban Cooperation Programme related to global cooperation to address climate change. Dr. Garcia’s publications on urban sustainability, climate change and sustainability education are numerous. His academic experiences include a position as a research assistant and two teaching assistant positions at Columbia University, a faculty adjunct and thesis advisor position at Concordia University, and faculty adjunct positions for the UCLA-Extension Program, the Georgia Institute of Technology and Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Garcia holds an engineering degree, an MSc degree in Management of Information Technologies, an MSc degree in Sustainability Management, and a doctoral degree in Educational Technology and Sustainability.

Principal at Trinkaus Engineering, LLC, in Southbury, CTMr. Trinkaus is an internationally-recognized expert in the field of low impact development (LID), having presented at many American Society of Civil Engineers/Environmental & Water Resource Institute (ASCE/EWRI) international conferences and many other regional conferences and workshops on LID and water quality issues. He was invited by the Water Resources Agency in Taichung, Taiwan, to present a 12-hour workshop on LID in December of 2011. Mr. Trinkaus has been an invited presenter and consultant multiple times on stormwater and LID in China and South Korea since 2013. He has designed LID retrofits in Zhenjiang, China. Mr. Trinkaus has reviewed and edited LID reports by Pusan National University and Land & Housing Institute in South Korea. Mr. Trinkaus has written LID design manuals for the towns of Tolland, Plainville, Harwinton, Morris, and East Granby, Connecticut. He has designed many types of LID treatment systems for a variety of residential and commercial applications. Mr. Trinkaus is primary author of the EWRI Filter Strip/Bioswales Task Committee. Mr. Trinkaus is a licensed professional engineer in Connecticut and Maryland. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Forest Management in 1980 from the University of New Hampshire. Mr. Trinkaus has more than 39 years of experience in the land development field and more than 19 years of experience designing low impact development treatment systems and 10 years writing LID regulations and design manuals.

Owner of Green Gardens Education and Designs LLCMs. Neal is the owner of Green Gardens Education and Designs. Prior to that, she was a biologist at Fernbank Science Center in Atlanta for over 30 years. She retired in 2017. Ms. Neal areas of expertise are composting, vermicomposting, ornithology, environmental education, establishing outdoor classrooms and wildlife gardens and educating the public about the wonders of monarchs. She has a bachelor’s degree in biology and a master’s degree in science education with an emphasis in animal behavior. In 2015 Ms. Neal received the Outstanding Biology Teacher Award for Georgia from the National Association of Biology Teacher in recognition of her career’s work in environmental education.
Ms. Neal was also the project director for the School Master Gardener program that trained over 300 Master Gardeners from 50 different schools across DeKalb County. Since 2003 these participants have volunteered over 50,000 hours at their local schoolhouses with over 35,000 students. Numerous Junior Master Gardener Clubs were formed in the local schoolhouses. This program also brought in over $63,461 in grant money at the local schools to support these school outdoor classrooms.
Upon retirement, she realized that her depth of knowledge offered an opportunity to help homeowners transition from a traditional lawn yard to a landscape that welcomes wildlife and pollinators with native plants. This type of landscape is critical in protecting threatened species and establishing a healthy ecosystem for humans and wildlife. Doug Tallamy, author of Bringing Nature Home, says “Gardening is a way of showing you believe in tomorrow”. Based on this belief, Ms. Neal formed an LLC called Green Gardens Education and Designs (GGED) and works with homeowners to make their residence a part of the solution, instead of it being part of the problem. When a customer works with GGED, they can expect a design that uses over thirty years of knowledge and experience and takes into consideration how a space is utilized by both humans and wildlife. This design will transform the landscape into both an aesthetically pleasing space and a space that is a part of the solution to the problems our earth is currently facing. By connecting yards and habitats, homeowners can actively work to offset their carbon footprints and support species that are struggling.
Bodie Pennisi, PhD
Professor and statewide Extension landscape specialist in the Department of Horticulture at the University of GeorgiaBodie Pennisi, received her Master of Science in 1996 and Doctoral degrees in 1999 from Environmental Horticulture Dept. of University of Florida in Gainesville. She joined the Horticulture Department at UGA in 2000. Dr. Pennisi is responsible for planning and coordinating a statewide Extension program to support the professional landscape industry and conducting applied research with emphasis on sustainable landscape practices such as biodegradable containers and microbial inoculants. Dr. Pennisi also conducts research on quantifying and qualifying floral provisioning resources for pollinators, biological enemies, and ecosystem services in urban and agricultural landscape contexts.
Dr. Pennisi’s publication record includes 25 journal articles, 58 published abstracts, 75 extension publications (manuals, bulletins, circulars), and 10 book chapters. She has 67 presentations at professional conferences as author or co-author, and over 500 presentations for stakeholder audiences (industry, civic groups, master gardeners, garden clubs, etc.). Dr. Pennisi assists county Extension agents with landscape troubleshooting, landscape planning, and local programming. She teaches Master Gardener training classes on landscape installation and maintenance, WaterSmart landscapes, interiorscapes, herbaceous and woody ornamental plant selection, plant propagation and plant physiology.
Dr. Pennisi serves on the boards of the statewide industry groups, Georgia Green Industry Association and the Georgia Urban Agriculture Council. She also serves as a scientific advisor to the board of the national non-profit organization Green Plants for Green Buildings (GPGB). Since 2014, she’s been serving as Co-Editor-in- Chief of Scientia Horticulturae (Elsevier Publ.) Dr. Pennisi has received numerous publication awards from the American Society for Horticultural Sciences (ASHS), Southern Region ASHS, National Association of County Agriculture Agents (NAACA), and Southern Regional Extension Forester. Her past awards include Senior Extension Specialist (Georgia Association of County Agriculture Agents), Henry Covington Extension Award, NACTA Award of Merit, John Hutchison Young Extension Educator, Georgia Green Industry Educator of the Year, Georgia Society of Association of Executives, and Georgia Flower Grower Association Outstanding Educator.

Wendy Lathrop, PLS, CFM, CFS
President and Owner of Cadastral Consulting, LLCMs. Lathrop is licensed as a professional land surveyor in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Maryland, and as a professional planner in New Jersey. She holds a master’s degree in Environmental Policy and has been involved in surveying since 1974 in projects ranging from construction to boundary to environmental land use disputes. Ms. Lathrop is also a certified floodplain manager through the Association of State Flood Plain Managers (ASFPM) and a certified floodplain surveyor through the New Jersey Society of Professional Land Surveyors. A former adjunct instructor at Mercer County College in New Jersey, she has also taught as part of the team for the licensing exam review course at Drexel University in Pennsylvania. Ms. Lathrop has been teaching seminars for surveyors since 1986 and has been writing articles for surveyors since 1983. She is a contributing editor for The American Surveyor magazine, and she has four articles included in the American Bar Association’s text, Land Surveys: A Guide for Lawyers and Other Professionals. She and Stephen V. Estopinal, PLS, PE co–authored a book entitled Professional Surveyors and Real Property Descriptions: Composition, Construction, and Comprehension, published by John Wiley & Sons, Inc. in 2011. She is also on the faculty of GeoLearn, a web-based educational provider. Ms. Lathrop is a past president of the New Jersey Society of Professional Land Surveyors and of the National Society of Professional Surveyors, and she has served on the Board of Directors for the American Association for Geodetic Surveying.
