Her goal is to ensure that individuals of all abilities can enjoy the facilities in the City of San Diego. Throughout her career, Ms. Warner has worked in various departments, including Engineering, Parks, and Public Works, and is currently with the Sustainability and Mobility Department, specifically in the ADA Compliance and Accessibility Section. Founder and Principal Restoration Economist of Economic Restoration ServicesMr. Giordanengo is the founder and principal restoration ecologist of AloTerra Restoration Services. He has 33 years of professional and academic experience in ecology, ecological restoration, business, and economics; 23 years of natural resource project management experience; 10 years of natural resource research experience; over 200 publications, oral presentations, articles and technical papers. He has founded and managed several non-profit organizations, and facilitated several complex stakeholder engagement processes with federal, state, local, non-profit, and private entities. Mr. Giordanengo earned his M.S. degree in Rangeland Ecosystem Science from Colorado State University and his B.S. degree from San Diego State University.
Devani Jolman
Scientist/Ph.D. candidate - Old Dominion University, in Norfolk, VAMs. Jolman is a 3rd year Ecological Sciences PhD Candidate at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. Her research focuses on understanding the ecological consequences of natural plant hybridization (crossing of two species) by studying wild hybrid blueberries across Virginia. Ms. Jolman research relies on the classification of plants to identify hybrids and their parent species; she uses genetics, plant traits, and pollinator interactions to explore the impact of hybrid plants. With the presence of hybrid plants increasing due to climate change, this work is increasingly relevant for conservation, management, and restoration purposes. In 2018, Ms. Jolman received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Calvin University in Michigan; her undergraduate research worked to inventory the flora of West Michigan, relying heavily on plant identification in the field. During this time, Ms. Jolman also worked at a local Michigan Nature Center to develop educational programs for the county park. After graduation, She spent three years in Vermont as a Park Interpreter and Park Manager for Vermont State Parks, planning and facilitating ecological park programs for a diverse array of park patrons while managing park operations. Along with pursuing her PhD in Virginia, Ms. Jolman currently works with numerous organizations (Norfolk Botanical Gardens, schools, retirement groups, Master Naturalists, local non-profits, Botanical Society of America’s Planting Science, etc.) to provide plant-focused educational programs to the public. She believes strongly in the equitable communication of science and strives to continually bridge the gap between academic research and the public through education.
Tristram G. Seidler, Ph.D.
Extension Assistant Professor of Biology with the University of Massachusetts AmherstMr. Seidler was trained in plant ecology at the University of California Santa Cruz, and obtained his PhD at Harvard University, where he studied the spatial distribution of tropical trees in the ultra-diverse rainforest of Malaysia. He continued with a post-doc at Imperial College of London’s Centre for Population Biology, where he studied invasive plants in the herbaceous community of Argentina’s flooding pampas. After returning to the US, he took a job with Native Plant Trust, a not-for-profit organization that monitors rare plants in New England, among other activities. While there, he ran the Royal Kew Garden’s Millennium Seed Bank’s Northeast US seed banking program, and built a seed bank for the seeds of rare and endangered plants for Native Plant Trust. In 2013 he took a faculty position at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he is Curator of the University of Massachusetts Herbarium, a medium-sized herbarium of 250,000 specimens, and teaches courses in botany and ecology.

Geotechnical Structure Design Specialist at Gradelta EngineeringMr. Simpson founded Gradelta Engineering in 2020 with the intent to help clients better understand the combination of geotechnical and structural engineering that he has worked with for the past 20 years. He earned his B.S.C.E. and M.S.C.E. degrees from Georgia Institute of Technology. He currently provides engineering services to contractors and fellow engineers for earth structure pricing, along with the plans and calculations needed for construction. He frequently consults with clients regarding the optimal structure type and location on the construction site to minimize risk and maximize useable space. Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control at Hanrahan Environmental, LLCMr. Hanrahan has more than 47 years of industry experience. In addition to presentations in Canada, Taiwan and the Dominican Republic, he has also presented at the national level for many organizations, including the International Erosion Control Association, the Land Improvement Contractors of America, the Geotechnical Fabrics Institute, the National Working Waterfront Network, and the American Water Works Association. Mr. Hanrahan’s articles have been published in many magazines, including Erosion Control, Land & Water, Geosynthetics, and Landscape Architect & Specifier News. He has produced webinars for the International Erosion Control Association, the International Association of Hydroseeding Professionals, the New York State Society of Professional Engineers, and Forester University. Mr. Hanrahan has also served as a guest lecturer at the University of Mississippi, Ohio Northern University, University of New England, and Vermont Technical College. He has also been active in industry organizations. He was national president of the International Management Council in 1991-92 and served four terms as president of the Northeast Chapter of the International Erosion Control Association. Mr. Hanrahan is also a member of the Senior Advisory Committee of Envirocert. He has developed and delivered training events throughout his career. From 2008 to the present, he has organized coastal erosion control training events up and down the New England Coast, with multiple seminars in Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. Amber Harden
Engineer with Coastal Engineering Services LLCMs. Harden, ensures the safety and maintenance of the Florida coastline through Coastal and Civil Engineering services. She serves the coastal communities of Florida in many ways from erosion control, environmental monitoring, dredging, and other marine construction measures. Ms. Harden has 10 years of professional experience on projects all over the coastal U.S., working in Alaska, California, Louisiana, Washington, and her home state of Florida. Prior to starting her own consulting firm, Ms. Harden worked for Manson Construction, one of the leaders in the U.S. dredging and marine construction industry, Orion (another large marine construction company), as well as a freelancer in the same field ensuring that large scale dredging and marine construction projects were completed on time, as planned, and within budget. She has a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of North Florida, and is registered to sit for the Florida PE exam in August of 2025. She plans to expand her company, Coastal Engineering Services LLC, to find new ways to create coastal resiliency all over the United States and beyond.

She earned a PhD in Marine Science (Virginia Institute of Marine Science) and an MA in Conservation Biology (Columbia University). Dr. Lefcheck has published over 80 peer-reviewed articles in the scientific literature, including in top-ranking journals such as Nature and Science, and his work has been featured by the Washington Post, New York Times, Smithsonian Magazine, and NPR. He has an enduring affinity for seagrasses, but has worked in an array of habitats, from coral and oyster reefs to mangroves to hydrothermal vents to agricultural crops and terrestrial forests. Dr. Lefcheck has received the Cozzarelli Prize from the National Academy of Science for his work on restoring the Chesapeake Bay, and the Secretary’s Prize from the Smithsonian Institution for his study demonstrating the global importance of maintaining reef fish diversity. He received his Ph.D. in Marine Science from the College of William & Mary in 2015 and was a post-doctoral researcher at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science and the Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences. Before his current post, he served as the Coordinating Scientist for the MarineGEO program at the Smithsonian Institution.
William "Bill" Nechamen, CFM
Principal and Owner of Nechamen Consulting, LLCMr. Nechamen was the Floodplain Coordinator for the State of New York Department of Environmental Conservation for 21 years. During that period, he helped to promote higher floodplain standards in New York, including enacting a two foot “freeboard” requirement in New York’s building code, saving property owners millions of dollars in flood losses and flood insurance premiums. One of the founders of the New York State Floodplain and Stormwater Managers Association (NYSFSMA), a professional association with over 600 active members, He was their first Chair and currently serves the Association as its treasurer.
Mr. Nechamen has been a Board member of the Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASFPM) at various times for 13 years. ASFPM represents over 15,000 professionals across the United States and internationally and is a key national voice in policies designed to reduce flood risk while preserving the natural and beneficial functions of floodplains. He served as chair (2013-2015), vice-chair (2011-2013) and treasurer (2008-2010) and is currently co-chair of the Floodplain Regulations Committee. Mr. Nechamen has received the ASFPM Meritorious Lifetime Achievement in Floodplain Management Award.
In his capacity as Floodplain Coordinator, he has led workshops and training sessions on the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), floodplain management and regulations, understanding and interpreting flood maps, flood insurance and the Community Rating System.
Peter Slovinsky
Marine Biologist, Maine Geological SurveyMr. Slovinsky is a Marine Geologist with the Maine Geological Survey, where he has worked since 2001. He leads Maine’s beach and nearshore mapping programs, and is an expert in coastal erosion, sea level rise, and conducting vulnerability assessments and resilience and adaptation planning. Mr. Slovinsky helps communities visualize coastal hazards and develop viable local and regional adaptation strategies and enjoys making technical science understandable to a variety of different stakeholder audiences. He is a past co-author of the sea level rise chapter for the Scientific Assessment of Climate Change and Its Effects in Maine report by the Maine Climate Council’s Scientific and Technical Subcommittee, is a lead author for the same section for the 2024 update and also serves on the Climate Council’s Community Resilience Working Group and Infrastructure Rebuilding and Resilience Commission.

Landscape Architecture Analyst with Kimley HornMr. Pfeiffer is a Landscape Architecture Analyst with Kimley-Horn working out of their Twin Cities office in Saint Paul, Minnesota. He has a BLA in Landscape Architecture from the Pennsylvania State University, with a desire to pursue a masters degree in the future. Eli has worked on a multitude of different projects with Kimley-Horn, such as Metro Transit’s Blue Line Extension from Downtown Minneapolis into the northwest metro suburbs. During his time in Pennsylvania, Eli worked closely with Dan Marriott on Rethinking 322, a community-driven advocacy project. This project aims to deliver alternate concepts for communities facing a highway widening project in the heart of Penns-Brush Valley. This work also included collaboration with Ian Lockwood, as he along with Alex McKeag and Cindy Zerger from Toole Design were invited to further advocacy and design efforts. Through this experience, Eli has aimed to specialize in corridor design and community collaboration. Thoroughly believing in community-driven solutions to corridor improvement, with emphasis put on public transportation, multimodalism, and breaking from our uniquely American style of automobile dependency.
Robert Searns

Associate Director for Urban and Community IPMMs. Windbiel-Rojas is the Associate Director for Urban and Community IPM and Area Urban IPM Advisor with the University of California Statewide Integrated Pest Management Program (UC IPM). In her role as Associate Director, she provides leadership and coordinates communication and collaboration to address pest issues around homes, structures, landscapes, gardens, schools, and public areas and works with various audiences who live in or serve these areas.
Ms. Windbiel-Rojas oversees UC IPM’s statewide urban educational materials, including content for the UC IPM website, training materials, and printed resources. As a cooperative extension advisor, she conducts research and provides educational resources on local pest issues in the three counties she serves.
Ms. Windbiel-Rojas earned a Master’s degree in Integrated Pest Management from UC Davis in 2006, where her studies focused on entomology, biological control, and pesticides, and a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
