All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. HalfMoon Education Inc. must be able to prove attendance if either the attendee or HalfMoon Education Inc. is audited.

Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

Continuing Education Credit Information

This webinar is open to the public and is designed to qualify for 3.0 PDHs for professional engineers and 3.0 HSW continuing education hours for licensed architects in all states that allow this learning method. Please refer to specific state rules to determine eligibility.

After working in engineering and design management with award-winning structural and construction firms for nearly 10 years, Mr. Woods founded his own firm, Woods Residential Engineering & Inspection. He is a licensed professional engineer in multiple states, and he holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Civil Engineering (with a focus on structures) from Washington University in St. Louis. He has earned “Accredited Professional” status from the U.S. Green Building Council. Mr. Woods is a member of: The Woods Educational Enrichment Foundation, the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) (Director of Programs for the Chicago professional chapter), the American Society of Civil Engineers, and the Structural Engineers Association of Illinois (SEAOI) (Member of the Diversity and Inclusion committee).

Course Title: Understanding Roof Trusses and Analyzing Their Design

Course Description: This three-hour course will examine and analyze different types of roof trusses. The course will explain what a roof truss is, how it functions, the different types of roof trusses, tie-downs and connections, and discusses challenging truss scenarios and case studies.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to define what a roof truss is and explain its functions: providing support, strength, and load distribution.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to identify the different types of roof trusses, including gable trusses, hip trusses, scissor roof trusses, and attic trusses.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to consider and evaluate the different truss options, tie-downs, and connections.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to discuss challenging truss scenarios and review relevant case studies concerning truss design and roof construction.
