Randy Scovill

Fire Plan Review, Inspector

Randy Scovill has more than 15 years of experience in the fire protection industry. He started out as a pipe fitter and went to community college to learn AutoCAD to perform fire sprinkler system design and hydraulic calculations. Mr. Scovill has designed, installed, and serviced residential, commercial, and industrial fire protection systems. This includes ground up buildings, tenant improvements, retrofits, and additions.

During his time as a pipe fitter and designer he obtained his undergraduate degree in architecture (Woodbury University) and master’s degree in architecture (Columbia University). Most recently, Mr. Scovill was the Fire Plan Checker and Inspector for Redondo Beach, CA and he is currently a Campus Fire Marshal for the California State University Office of the Chancellor, Office of Fire Safety.

Course Description: This four-hour course provides an analysis of high pile storage design and safety requirements based on NFPA 13. The course will explain what high pile storage is, discuss storage heights and requirements, explore commodity classifications, and compare storage systems.

Learners will be able to differentiate between and compare in-rack storage and ESFR systems in high pile storage.
