This webinar is open to the public and offers 6.5 PDHs to professional engineers and 6.5 HSW continuing education hours to architects in all states. It offers 6.5 HSW continuing education hours to landscape architects licensed in most states. HalfMoon Education is not seeking landscape architect approval in New Jersey.

He is and Tree Risk Assessment Qualified, by the International Society of Arboriculture, and he is a Consulting Arborist. He was the owner of a premium services landscaping company for 20 years.
Mr. Palmer focus is on trees in urban and construction environments, soil deficiencies and the importance of soils for sustainable mature trees, increasing urban tree canopies by ensuring trees live to maturity, and unsustainable landscape designs.
Mr. Palmer does tree assessments for individuals, commercial clients, law firms, insurance companies, municipalities, landscape architecture firms, parks and woodland management agencies, and he has assessed and evaluated thousands of individual trees in the past decade.

Course Description: This course examines the many threats that challenge the life and health of trees, including pests and pathogens, poor soil conditions, lack of pruning, planting too from native conditions and climate, and mistakes made by caretakers/planters.

Learners will be able to identify and describe which insects threaten particular tree species and which insects can benefit trees.

Learners will be able to identify and describe diseases that are common to trees, and they will be able to explain what conditions expose trees to particular tree species.

Learners will be able to discuss how improper soil conditions can threaten trees and what remediation steps can be taken improve soil conditions.

Learners will be able to describe how pruning trees can benefit their health, appearance and longevity.

Learners will be able to explain the value of planting native versus non-native or invasive tree species and why placing particular trees at certain locations on a site can impact tree health and survival.
