All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. HalfMoon Education Inc. must be able to prove attendance if either the attendee or HalfMoon Education Inc. is audited.

Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

Webinars are presented via GoToWebinar, an easy-to-use application that can be run on most systems and tablets. The 2020 New York State Commercial Energy Code,
including the Stretch Code
This seminar is open to the public and offers 7.0 continuing education hours to
professional engineers and 7.0 HSW continuing education hours to architects in
New York.

This event is approved by the American Institute of Architects for 7.0 HSW Learning Units
(Sponsor No. J885). Only full attendance can be reported to the AIA/CES.

HalfMoon Education is approved by the International Code Council as a continuing
education sponsor (Preferred Provider No. 1232). Course approval is applied for and
pending in the area of Energy. Visit www.halfmoonseminars.org for updates on this

HalfMoon Education is deemed a New York-approved continuing education provider for
architects via its affiliation with the American Institute of Architects (Regulations of the
Commissioner §69.6(i)(2)).

The New York State Education Department considers courses as approved for New York
State mandatory continuing education for professional engineers if the sponsor’s courses
are approved by the American Institute of Architects Continuing Education System and
are in approved subject areas (Regulations of the Commissioner §68.14(i)(2)).

Architects and engineers seeking continuing education credit in other states will be able
to apply the hours earned at these seminars, in most cases. Refer to specific state rules
to determine eligibility.

Both events offer a non-credit continuing education opportunity to construction
contractors. Neither event has been approved by any state with a continuing education
requirement for contractors.

In-person attendance will be monitored, and attendance certificates will be available
after the seminar for most individuals who complete the entire event. Attendance
certificates not available at the seminar will be mailed to participants within fifteen
business days.

Course completion certificates will be awarded to participants who complete the webinar
in its entirety, respond to all the prompts during the instruction, and earn a score of 80%
on the quiz that follows the instruction (multiple attempts allowed).

 

 

Speakers

Wendy Talarico LEED AP

Ms. Talarico is an ICC-certified energy/green code plan reviewer and consults with architects and engineers throughout the Northeast to provide continuing education on a range of subjects from codes to building science. She is an instructor for Urban Green/New York State Energy Research and Development Authority’s “Conquering the Code”, an 8-hour energy code class in New York State. Ms. Talarico was a member of the engineering outreach team for the Brick Industry Association, and she is an award-winning journalist with more than 25 years of experience as a writer and editor for such publications as Architectural Record and This Old House. Her areas of expertise include building energy, sustainability issues, and codes, including the IECC, ASHRAE 90.1, IEBC, and the IgCC.

Course Title: The 2020 New York State Commercial Energy Code, including the Stretch Code

Course Description: The course examines the International Energy Conservation Code as adopted in New York state. Topics include the development and adoption of the 2020 New York State Commercial Energy Conservation Code, and specific code requirements for the building envelope, HVAC and mechanical systems, and lighting. Time is also devoted to a review of the Stretch Code in New York state.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to reference and comply with general requirements and the compliance options of the code’s commercial provisions, including those for existing buildings, in the 2020 NYSECC.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to reference and comply with 2020 NYSECC requirements for weather-resistive building envelope barriers, vapor barriers, air barriers and thermal boundaries, insulation thickness, fenestration, doors and entrances, and basement/slab insulation.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to reference and comply with 2020 NYSECC provisions for HVAC systems, service water heating, and power and lighting.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to reference, discuss and comply with the more stringent requirements of the NY Stretch Energy Code (2020).
