Course Title: Terrestrial Laser Scanning: From Field to Digital Twin

Delivery Method: Live Online

Course Description: This three-hour course provides a practical, end-to-end introduction to terrestrial laser scanning, from field data capture through processing and delivery of models for BIM and digital twin applications. The session explains how scanning is planned, executed, registered, and quality-checked, and how point cloud data is translated into reliable digital deliverables that support design, documentation, and existing conditions modeling.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1: Learners will be able to plan terrestrial laser scanning field procedures, including control and georeferencing strategies, to safely and accurately capture existing site and building conditions.

Learning Objective 2: Learners will be able to assess how laser scanning deliverables are integrated into BIM workflows and digital twin applications to support design, renovation, and facility management decisions.

Learning Objective 3: Learners will be able to apply digital twin and laser scanning workflows to assess existing conditions, identify risks or conflicts, and improve decision-making during renovation, construction, and facility management.

Learning Objective 4: Learners will be able to evaluate point cloud data quality and apply registration and quality control methods to minimize measurement errors that could affect design, construction, and occupant safety.
