All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. HalfMoon Education Inc. must be able to prove attendance if either the attendee or HalfMoon Education Inc. is audited.

Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

Continuing Education Credit Information

This webinar is open to the public and is designed to qualify for 2.0 PDHs for professional engineers, 2.0 HSW continuing education hours for licensed architects, and 2.0 HSW continuing education hours for landscape architects in all states that allow this learning method. Please refer to specific state rules to determine eligibility.

Speakers

Sharareh Shirzad, Ph.D.

Assistant Professor at Appalachian State University

Dr. Sharareh Shirzad is an assistant professor at the Department of Sustainable Technology and the Built Environment at Appalachian State University. Before that, she worked as a graduate research assistant at Louisiana State University and Louisiana Transportation Research Center. She obtained her Ph.D. degree from the Department of Construction Management at LSU working on light-activated self-healing asphalt materials. She also holds a graduate certificate in Materials Science and Engineering. Dr. Shirzad’s research expertise and interest are in the broad theme of sustainable infrastructure and sustainable construction materials. She has published the results from her research on self-healing asphalt materials, recycling of asphalt materials, and sustainable asphalt pavements in multiple peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering and the Journal of Construction and Building Materials. She is currently working on the use of bio-oil and biochar obtained from pyrolysis of the wood and forestry waste in asphalt and concrete pavement, respectively.

Course Title: Sustainable Asphalt Pavement

Delivery Method: Live Online

Course Description: This two-hour short course on sustainable asphalt pavement instructs design professionals on how to perform a life-cycle cost analysis, discusses the energy consumption and carbon footprint of asphalt pavement, identifies and analyzes sustainable materials, and explores local environment preservation enhancement.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to perform a life-cycle cost analysis (LCCA) and consider the carbon footprint associated with asphalt production and use.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to identify sources of energy consumption in the production and application of asphalt pavement.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to explore the science and use of sustainable materials, including recycled asphalt (RAP and RAS), rubber asphalt, warm-mix asphalt and alternative binders.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to engage in local environment preservation enhancement and identify other sustainable practices related to asphalt pavement.
