This webinar is open to the public and is designed to qualify for 7.0 PDHs for professional engineers, 7.0 HSW continuing education hours for licensed architects, and 7.0 HSW continuing education hours for landscape architects in all states that allow this learning method. Mr. Breuning is the founder and owner of Green Roof Technology, a firm specializing in Green Infrastructure and Green Roof design, engineering, consulting, material sourcing, plant selection, and – most importantly – construction supervision. Mr. Breuning’s extensive experience also covers all aspects around structural topics, roofing, waterproofing, and maintenance of Green Roofs and Green Walls. This includes Food Roofs or Urban Agriculture, Blue/Green Roofs, Brownfield Roofs, Wetland Roofs, Solar Garden Roofs (old term: Biosolar), Retention Roofs, Bioroofs, and any combination of the mentioned, in any climate zone on Earth.

Dr. Stephen J. Souza, Ph.D.

Owner of Clean Waters Consulting, LLC in New Jersey

Dr. Souza has over 35 years of professional expertise in the management and restoration of water resources. This includes the design and application of a wide array of green infrastructure stormwater management techniques. Dr. Souza received his B.S. degree from the University of Massachusetts – Dartmouth (1974), his M.S. degree from Rutgers University (1976), and his Ph.D. degree from the University of Connecticut (1981). He is the founding partner of Princeton Hydro, serving as the company’s president until his retirement in 2018. Dr. Souza is an instructor and course coordinator for the Rutgers NJAES Office of Continuing Professional Education as well as for Continuing Professional Education Services, LLC. He is also an adjunct professor at Temple University (Department of Landscape and Horticulture – Tyler School of Art and Agriculture). He also conducts a professional continuing education course focusing on green infrastructure stormwater management for CPES through Montclair State University.

Hank Tolman, CPESC

Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC)

Mr. Tolman is the president and owner of AccenaGroup, a company that has served Utah and surrounding states as stormwater plan and consulting experts since 2007. His industry certifications include QSWPPP, Utah RSI, CISEC, and CPESC. Mr. Tolman has presented several times at American Public Works Association (APWA) conferences, CASQA, Stormcon, and other industry conferences. He has consulted on U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Utah State consent decrees and regularly guest lectured for construction management classes at Brigham Young University and Utah Valley University.

Course Description: This seven-hour course examines stormwater best management practice selection and natural landscaping benefits, including topics such as vegetated roofs, permeable pavers, rain barrels, cisterns, rain gardens, filter strips, drainage swales, and case studies.

Learning Objectives: 

Learning Objective 1: Learners will be able to explain the environmental and stormwater management benefits of reducing site disturbances during construction and increasing natural landscaping.

Learning Objective 2: Learners will be able describe the function and installation process of permeable pavers, filter strips and drainage swales.

Learning Objective 3: Learners will be able describe the differences between extensive and intensive vegetated roofs, understand their benefits, and discuss required maintenance.

Learning Objective 4: Learners will be able to assess site topography, hydrology, and soils to determine stormwater system sizing and design, and selection of best management practices.
