Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

Whitestone Associates, Inc., Southborough, MA

Mr. Roy is a licensed professional engineer in 17 states and the District of Columbia and has managed projects primarily throughout the Northeast but also along the entire eastern coast of the United States for over 26 years. As vice president, Mr. Roy manages offices in Southborough, MA, Rocky Hill, CT, Rochester, NY, and Bedford NH. Mr. Roy has extensive experience in geotechnical engineering, construction materials testing and inspection, and environmental services. Mr. Roy’s has completed hundreds of forensic investigations of deficient construction materials and techniques. Investigations have included review and testing of materials ranging from soils, concrete, pavement, and groundwater to building materials such as structural steel, vapor barriers, and spray-foam insulation. Additionally, Mr. Roy has served as an expert witness on many cases where construction deficiencies have led to litigation.

Course Title: Special Inspections Under Chapter 17 of the International Building Code

Course Description: This seven-hour course will cover what design professionals need to know about participating in the IBC Chapter 17 special inspections process, and will include information on recent updates to codes and standards that intersect with IBC Chapter 17.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to review the general program guidelines under the International Building Code, as well as all applicable forms, schedules, agreements and reports related to special inspections.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to engage in soil and foundation (shallow and deep) inspections by analyzing and considering existing soil conditions.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to define requirements for structural steel construction inspections and verify the safety and efficacy of welded and bolted connections between structural steel components.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to engage in the inspection of exterior insulation, finishes, fire resistant materials and smoke control.

Learning Objective 5:
Learner will be able to utilize in-situ load tests and pre-construction load tests and review the design strength of materials.
