Alexandra C. Colby

Attorney in the New Jersey office of Cokinos and Young

Ms. Colby mainly represents owners, general contractors, and subcontractors in private and public contract disputes. She spent her undergraduate career focusing on international economic development policy, traveling to twelve countries in four years. While working for Grameen Australia Philippines in Quezon City, she found a passion for development contract work and decided to attend law school. Ms. Colby continued working toward a career in development contracts by spending a summer serving as a Law Clerk to the U.S. Agency for International Development’s Acquisition and Assistance team in the Office of General Counsel, where she worked on disputes arising under the Federal Acquisition Regulation and Foreign Assistance Act. She then attended LUISS Guido Carli in Rome for an LL.M. in International, Comparative, and E.U. law, where she focused her studies on international business law. Ms. Colby began her post-graduate career by serving as a Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Mary C. Jacobson, A.J.S.C. (ret.) for a one-year term. During her clerkship term, she worked on land use matters, bid protests on state and local contract projects, Open Public Records Act disputes, and various civil procedure and criminal matters. She then joined a construction litigation boutique firm, where she represented owners, general contractors, subcontractors, hotel owners, and hospitality management companies in transactional and litigation work, from pre-trial to the highest levels of appeals. Ms. Colby worked on matters in state and federal court in eight states, and those in private mediations and arbitrations.

Roland P. Driscoll

Attorney in the New Jersey office of Cokinos and Young

Mr. Driscoll obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Boston College in 2011. Subsequent to his time in Boston, he attended Rutgers School of Law, from which he graduated in 2014. He has significant experience in personal injury matters, including actions involving claims of wrongful death and catastrophic injury. Mr. Driscoll has represented the interests of municipalities, hospitals, contractors, and commercial premises owners in various actions. He also has experience in defending property damage claims and medical malpractice matters, as well as actions involving New York Labor Law and Construction related lawsuits.

Rod Francovalle

Steven Nudelman

Partner, Greenbaum, Rowe, Smith and Davis, LLP

Mr. Nudelman concentrates his practice in construction law. For over two decades he has represented members of the construction industry across a broad spectrum of matters. He has defended and asserted claims on behalf of owners, developers, condominium associations, general contractors, design professionals, subcontractors, vendors and sureties involved in public and private construction projects throughout the New Jersey and New York metropolitan area. More specifically, Mr. Nudelman has extensive experience handling claims related to payment disputes, construction, design and performance defects, errors and omissions/professional malpractice, code violations, delay and disruption, liens, bonds, public contracting and violations under the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act. He also maintains an active transactional practice, drafting, reviewing and negotiating construction contracts for his clients with an emphasis on efficiency and practical results.

Greg Trif

Mr. Trif has a diverse practice in the areas of construction and complex commercial litigation. His representative clients include private owners, general contractors, subcontractors, utility and heavy highway contractors, renewable energy firms and manufacturers of building products. He regularly prosecutes and defends claims in various federal and state courts, as well as providing arbitration tribunals. Mr. Trif also concentrates in the area of labor disputes, public procurement, bid protests, negotiation of change orders and equitable adjustment claims. He also advises clients in the review, negotiation and drafting of construction contracts, as well providing guidance and counsel in project dispute resolution and project crisis management. Mr. Trif frequently authors articles and lectures to lawyers and construction industry professionals on topics related to the construction industry and construction law.

Course Description: This six-hour course focuses on the best practices used to prevent problems during construction and analyzes solutions to five different types of issues that may arise on a construction project: handling scheduling problems, making ordered changes, making constructive changes, managing costs and managing supply chain issues.

Learners will be able to adopt best practices for preventing problems in the construction phase before they arise, such as communication, documentation, scheduling, cost control and quality assurance.

Learners will be able to create a reasonable construction schedule, monitor and maintain the schedule, and utilize strategies to handle unforeseen scheduling issues such as inclement weather, labor shortages, supply issues, etc.
