 Webinar Instructions

Each webinar session earns continuing education credit and can be registered for individually. All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. HalfMoon Education Inc. must be able to prove attendance if either the attendee or HalfMoon Education Inc. is audited.

Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

Webinars are presented via GoToWebinar, an easy-to-use application that can be run on most systems and tablets. Instructions and login information will be provided in an email sent close to the date of the webinar. It is highly recommended that you download, install and test the application before the webinar begins by clicking on the link in the email.

HalfMoon Education is deemed an approved continuing education sponsor for New York engineers and architects and landscape architects via its registration with the American Institute of Architects Continuing Education System (Regulations of the Commissioner §68.14(i)(2), §69.6(i)(2) and §79-1.5(i)(2)). Other states do not preapprove continuing education providers or courses.

The American Institute of Architects Continuing Education System has approved this course for 6.0 LU|HSWs (Sponsor No. J885). Only full participation is reportable to the AIA/CES.

The Landscape Architecture Continuing Education System has approved this course for 6.0 HSW PDHs. Only full participation is reportable to the LA CES.

The International Code Council has approved this event for .6 CEUs in the specialty area of Sitework (Preferred Provider No. 1232).

This webinar has been approved by the Association of State Floodplain Managers for 6.0 CECs for floodplain managers.

Attendance will be monitored, and attendance certificates will be available after the webinar for those who attend the entire course and score a minimum 80% on the quiz that follows the course (multiple attempts allowed).

Speakers

Seda Gokyer Erbis Ph.D.

Project Manager at Geocomp Consulting
Dr. Gokyer Erbis is a geotechnical engineer with 10 years of experience in research, development, and consulting in geotechnical earthquake engineering. She has been leading the technical efforts for one of Geocomp’s largest consulting projects on seismic assessment of coal ash impoundments. She has worked on various research and consulting projects that involved advanced field and laboratory testing for soil characterization. These projects include undrained behavior of coal combustion residuals, soil liquefaction and post-liquefaction behavior under different test conditions: cyclic triaxial, unidirectional and bidirectional direct simple shear, inducing partial saturation for liquefaction mitigation. She also has background in seismic instrumentation and numerical modeling. She has experience in using software tools to assess slope stability (GeoStudio), to conduct site response analysis (ProShake, DeepSoil), to analyze soil structure interaction (PYWall, Group), to model flow and transport in saturated/unsaturated porous media (SUTRA). She has authored and co-authored several publications in peer reviewed ASCE and ASTM journals and conference proceedings.

Antonios Vytiniotis Ph.D. P.E.

Director – Group Lead, Massachusetts Consulting, Geocomp
Dr. Vytiniotis is a member of the Geo-Institute’s Deep Foundation and Computation Geotechnics committees and a regional Director for the Society of Construction Law – North America.  He has background in structural and geotechnical engineering, geotechnical earthquake engineering, and numerical analysis. He has worked on numerous projects in more than 20 states and multiple countries, assisting project owners, law firms, insurance companies and developers. His analyses consist of assessing soil improvement, soil-structure interaction, dam safety, causation of MSE wall failures, effects of adjacent construction (such as vibrations or pile driving), soil heave or settlements, pipeline installation, water intrusion, and backfill quality. He is experienced in evaluating slope stability, performing mechanical and flow-through-porous media finite element analyses and soil-structure interaction using various software such as Plaxis, Flac, Geostudio, ABAQUS, LPILE, FEFLOW and GROUP. Additionally, Dr. Vytiniotis has experience in data analysis, signal processing and GIS.  Dr. Vytiniotis has performed research on the seismic response of pile-supported wharves, seismic slope stability, the effectiveness of prefabricated vertical drains (earthquake drains) and soil densification in reducing liquefaction risk, the effect of gravel drains in amplifying seismic accelerations, and numerical simulations of centrifuge experiments. In the past, Dr. Vytiniotis gained international experience in Greece and Switzerland, and was appointed lecturer at MIT.
