Course Title: Seismic Design Criteria of Buildings and Other Structures
Delivery Method: Live Online
Course Description: This 6.5-hour course focuses on the design criteria and building codes related to withstanding seismic loads. The course begins by analyzing earthquake characteristics, ground motions and structural responses before discussing the modern philosophy of seismic design, seismic-related building code requirements (ASCE 7 and ASCE 41), and material-specific seismic force resisting systems.
Learning Objectives:
Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to discuss how earthquake characteristics can be affected by soil conditions and the severity and frequency of earthquake in different parts of the United States.
Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to analyze ground motions that occur during a seismic event and the structural response of buildings.
Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to identify and reference seismic design requirements and criteria of ASCE 7 and utilize seismic force resisting systems.
Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to discuss the retrofitting of existing buildings to withstand seismic events through compliance with ASCE 41.
