Speakers

James Golden

James Golden is the Founder and CEO of Pavement Management Group, head quartered in Heath, OH with satellite offices in Tampa, FL, Oviedo, FL, and Branson, MO. With over 20 years of experience directly within the pavement management, maintenance, and engineering industries, his passion truly lies in helping local governments to develop better roadway networks through a standardized pavement management blueprint.

Timothy J. Martin P.E.

Timothy J. Martin, P.E. is president and the principal engineer at 2TM Consulting Engineers. He has extensive pavement engineering experience, specializing in the design, performance, management, evaluation and forensic investigation of pavement structures. His application of design principles and research has optimized pavement designs for state highway design build projects, municipal pavement design, aviation and port pavement designs. An industry expert in the analysis and problem solving of pavement performance issues, Mr. Martin has led investigations into premature pavement failures for many clients across all market sectors. He has taught flexible pavement design to local agencies utilizing publicly available state agency software. He is a current member of ACI committees 325 and 330 and has contributed to those concrete pavement specifications. He is a frequent presenter at associations and technical conferences applying his research and case studies. 

Curran E. Mohney

Engineering Geologist for the Oregon Department of Transportation

Mr. Mohney is the Engineering Geology Program leader for the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT). The Engineering Geology Program at ODOT encompasses site characterization, subsurface exploration, slopes and embankments, geologic hazards, groundwater, geotechnical instrumentation, and planning and research activities. In this role, he also oversees the Unstable Slopes (landslide/rockfall) Program for ODOT. He is a registered geologist and a certified engineering geologist in Oregon with over 25 years of experience in Oregon and the western states. Mr. Mohney has been the Engineering Geology Program leader since 2004. Prior to this, he had been a staff and project-level geologist for consulting firms and the mining industry as well as for ODOT. He is a graduate of the Geology Program at Portland State University. During his professional career, Mr. Mohney has been involved in the investigation, design, and mitigation of hundreds of landslides and rockfalls.

David Peshkin P.E.

David Peshkin, P.E. joined APTech in 1996 as a Vice President and Principal of Applied Pavement Technology, focusing his technical efforts in: preventive maintenance and preservation; pavement evaluation and design; technology transfer for pavement design, maintenance, and rehabilitation; and pavement research. Today, as Chief Engineer and Principal, he provides consulting engineering services on airport and roadway projects across the United States and around the world. His current projects include a pavement preservation benchmarking study for FHWA, and surface treatment studies for Arizona DOT and the FAA. He holds BS and MS degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois, a BA in History from Swarthmore College, and is a registered professional engineer in 15 States.

Course Title: Roadway Maintenance, Rehabilitation, and Repair

Course Description: This six-hour course instructs design professionals how to establish a pavement management system, how to maintain and repair asphalt roadways and jointed concrete pavements, and how to perform roadside maintenance and repair.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to identify the primary components of a pavement management system and the primary methods of condition assessment in order to develop a complete pavement management system.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to properly maintain and repair asphalt roadways by identifying and determining the cause of roadway distresses and employing appropriate repair techniques such as crack sealing, patching, surface treatments and HMA overlays.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to properly maintain and repair jointed concrete pavements through considerate design and material selection, appropriate preparation and construction techniques, and quality control.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to properly maintain roadsides by repairing and grading shoulders, controlling erosion, and performing cut slope repairs.
