Rajendra Meruva, P.E.

Delek Logistics

Mr. Meruva is a geotechnical engineer with 22 years of experience. He is a professional engineer (PE) in Texas, New Mexico, South Carolina, Louisiana, and Tennessee. Mr. Meruva has worked on a variety of projects, including nuclear facilities, wind turbines, bridges, hospitals, parking garages, highrise buildings, refineries, gas plants, schools, dams, landfills, and hydraulic fracking pits, and he has worked in the oil and gas industry. In his current role with Delek, he serves as a lead civil engineer providing civil/geotechnical/structural support on oil and gas midstream facilities. He also provides training to junior and entry-level staff. Mr. Meruva earned his M.S. degree in Geotechnical Engineering from the University of Houston in Houston, Texas.

Course Title: Retaining Wall Design and Slope Stabilization Techniques

Course Description: This 6.5-hour course reviews various types of retaining walls and their applications, discusses retaining wall design considerations and components, provides an analysis of retaining wall stability and lateral earth pressure, and demonstrates how to assess and increase slope stability.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to identify different types of retaining walls, including traditional cantilevered walls, timber walls, gravity walls, anchored retaining walls, gabion walls, crib walls, reinforced soil walls and more.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to analyze the stability of retaining walls, including external stability, internal stability and global stability.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to review the design components and considerations of retaining walls, including soil design parameters, lateral earth pressure, backfill, groundwater and service life.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to discuss the science of slope stability, differentiate between superficial and deep-seated stability, and identify stabilization techniques.
