All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. HalfMoon Education Inc. must be able to prove attendance if either the attendee or HalfMoon Education Inc. is audited.

Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

Residential Structural Design
This webinar offers 6.5 PDHs to professional engineers and 6.5 HSW continuing
education hours to architects licensed in all states.

HalfMoon Education is an approved continuing education sponsor for engineers in
Florida (Provider No. 0004647), Indiana (License No. CE21700059), Maryland, New
Jersey (Approval No. 24GP00000700), and North Carolina (S-0130). HalfMoon Education

Speakers

Gregory A. Robinson, P.E.

Consulting Engineer

Mr. Robinson is a graduate of North Carolina State University from which he received his bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and his master of Civil Engineering degree. He has over 30 years of experience in the structural engineering field and has been in private practice for over 24 years. Prior to establishing his own practice Mr. Robinson worked for Bechtel Petroleum in San Francisco and for various structural engineering firms in the Raleigh area. Mr. Robinson is a licensed professional engineer in 16 states. He has taught structural analysis classes at the community college level and has conducted numerous seminars over the last 20 years. He also served on a sub-committee for the North Carolina Building Code Council tasked with reviewing the provisions of the North Carolina Residential Code for interior moisture control and water intrusion. Mr. Robinson’s practice includes design, analysis and evaluation of steel, concrete, masonry and timber structures. He has investigated over 1,500 wood frame buildings for damage, and he has developed plans of repair for structures and finishes.

Marcus E. Woods, PE & LEED AP

Principal, Woods Residential Engineering and Inspection, LLC

After working in engineering and design management with award-winning structural and construction firms for nearly 10 years, Mr. Woods founded his own firm, Woods Residential Engineering & Inspection. Mr. Woods is a licensed professional engineer in multiple states, and he holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Civil Engineering (with a focus on structures) from Washington University in St. Louis. He has earned “Accredited Professional” status from the U.S. Green Building Council. Mr. Woods is a member of: The Woods Educational Enrichment Foundation, the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) (Director of Programs for the Chicago professional chapter), the American Society of Civil Engineers, and the Structural Engineers Association of Illinois.

Course Title: Residential Structural Design

Course Description: This course on residential structural design covers the types of loads on residential structures, IRC structural provisions and other design standards and guidelines, foundation design, frame design, and designing for weather and seismic loads. Learners will have the opportunity to put it all together in class by creating the structural design for a single-family home.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to identify the types of loads on structures and describe how buildings and structures are classified.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to discuss and reference structural provisions in the International Residential Code and other standards and guidelines.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to explain how to choose a foundation type, determine bearing capacity of site soils, and select framing materials for floors, walls, roofs and connections.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to identify factors to consider when designing for wind, snow, flood and seismic loads.
