All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. HalfMoon Education Inc. must be able to prove attendance if either the attendee or HalfMoon Education Inc. is audited. 

Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

This webinar is open to the public and is designed to qualify for 6.0 PDHs for professional engineers and 6.0 HSW continuing education hours for licensed architects in all states that allow this learning method. Please refer to specific state rules to determine eligibility.

Certified Building Inspector / Building Official / Energy and Building Durability / Resiliency Specialist Builder / Construction Manager with Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry

Mr. Sivigny has over 32 years of work experience in enforcement of the Minnesota Building Codes in both rural and metropolitan settings. He has spent many years in the industry as a code official and a construction manager. Mr. Sivigny is known nationally for his work in residential building codes, building durability issues, building science, air quality control, radon, energy and green building issues. He has traveled the country teaching these topics and has often been a featured speaker both locally and nationally on these topics as well.

Course Title:  Residential Deck, Porch and Sunroom Design and Construction

Course Description: This six-hour course examines the design and construction of residential decks, porches, and sunrooms, with a focus on structural requirements, safety, accessibility, and code compliance. The course explores material selection, sustainability, and the integration of specific features and fixtures, including stairs, ramps, handrails, built-in seating, and exterior heating/cooling options.

Learning Objectives: 

Learning Objective 1: Learners will be able to describe the history and applications of residential decks, porches, and sunrooms.

Learning Objective 2: Learners will be able to utilize proper stair, ramp, and handrail designs that enhance safety and accessibility.

Learning Objective 3: Learners will be able to identify and comply with structural requirements related to codes, standards, loads, and egress.

Learning Objective 4: Learners will be able to integrate various fixtures and structures into residential deck design, including shade/coverings, enclosures, built-in seating, outdoor heating/cooling, lighting and more.
