This webinar is open to the public and is designed to qualify for 6.0 PDHs for professional engineers, 6.0 HSW continuing education hours for licensed architects, and 6.0 HSW continuing education hours for landscape architects in all states that allow this learning method. Speakers

David K. Hein, P.Eng.

Consulting Civil Engineer

Mr. Hein has over 38 years of experience in the design, evaluation and management of transportation infrastructure. He recently retired from Applied Research Associates, Inc. of Toronto, Canada, where he managed the 90-person Transportation Infrastructure Division in the U.S. and Canada. Mr. Hein is the past president of the American Society of Civil Engineers Transportation and Development Institute (ASCE T&DI), and chair of several engineering standards committees. Mr. Hein is a member of the Transportation Association of Canada (TAC) past-chair of the pavements committee and past member of the Transportation Research Board pavement management, pavement maintenance and pavement preservation committees. Mr. Hein has been a member of the World Road Association (WRA) pavements and asset management committees since 2002. Mr. Hein has been involved in numerous national and international research, evaluation and asset management projects for federal, state, provincial and municipal agencies and many of the public/private/ partnership highway construction projects across Canada and the United States.

Course Title: Permeable Pavements: Applications, Design, Construction and Maintenance

Delivery Method: Live Online

Course Description: This six-hour course examines the design, construction and maintenance of permeable pavements, from site selection to inspection. The course will focus on structural and hydrologic design, ASCE standards, construction techniques, and maintenance. The course concludes with life-cycle analysis and three pertinent case studies.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to determine site suitability and analyze structural and hydrologic design of permeable pavements.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to discuss the required site preparations, how to deal with nearby utilities, and the installation details when constructing permeable pavements.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to maintain pavement surface conditions and water infiltration as well as comply with inspection and monitoring plans.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to discuss three specific case studies concerning permeable interlocking concrete, porous asphalt, and pervious concrete, and the lessons learned.
