This webinar offers 6.5 PDHs to professional engineers licensed in all states except New York.

Hissan Anis
Hissan Anis is a principal at Avant Law Group, LLC. He provides strategic patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret counseling to a wide range of public and private companies. This includes not only obtaining patents in the electrical, mechanical, and software arts, but also counseling clients on intellectual property litigation matters and counseling clients on avoiding litigation. He has substantial experience with AIA post grant proceedings, and he has represented clients in dozens of inter partes review cases. Before law school, Mr. Anis worked in the transmission and distribution group of a national engineering consulting firm and as a programmer for a microelectronic solutions company.
Philip H. Burrus IV
Phillip H. Burrus, IV is the founder of The Burrus Intellectual Property Law Group, LLC. Mr. Burrus worked with Motorola, Inc. from 1997 through 2005. Serving as senior patent counsel, he was solely responsible for the intellectual property prosecution and portfolio management of the Energy Systems Group, a $700 million business. In 2005, to answer the needs of in-house counsel across Atlanta, he founded the Burrus Intellectual Property Law Group. He has extensive experience with intellectual property prosecution, as well as portfolio development and management, for businesses both small and large. With degrees in engineering, business, agriculture, and law, as well as experience as an entrepreneur, Mr. Burrus assists clients with a wide range of intellectual property issues, including patent, trademark, and copyright prosecution, portfolio management, licensing, and opinion work. He is licensed to practice in Georgia; North Carolina; Washington, D.C. and before the US Patent and Trademark Office. Mr. Burrus was named a “Rising Star” in 2010, 2011, and 2012 and a “Super Lawyer” in 2019, 2020, and 2021 by Georgia Super Lawyers magazine, and he previously served as the chair of the Intellectual Property Section of the State Bar of Georgia.
John M. Fleming
John M. Fleming, an attorney at Banner Witcoff in Washington D.C., concentrates on preparing and prosecuting utility and design patent applications in a variety of technical fields while participating in litigation matters, client counseling, and a wide variety of opinion work. His technical areas include telecommunications, internet-related and private network technology, semiconductors, e-commerce, digital/electronic handwriting, color management, graphical user interface systems, financial security and authentication, application programming interfaces, and computer-relation technologies involving hardware, software, and firmware. Mr. Fleming has an extensive amount of design prosecution experience and development, including various hardware in addition to computer interfaces and icons. He has filed and prosecuted hundreds of design applications from initial prototypes to commercially available products. With a practical background in electrical engineering, he has experience in all phases of writing and prosecuting complex patent applications in a variety of technical fields. Mr. Fleming also serves as Associate Professorial Lecturer in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department (MAE) at The George Washington University, teaching patent law for engineers.
A. Justin Poplin
A. Justin Poplin is a principal at Avant Law Group, LLC. Companies of all sizes rely on his legal advice on patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret, licensing, and confidentiality issues. Many clients use him as outside general counsel because he efficiently prevents and solves problems in ways that minimize disruption to their businesses. Mr. Poplin has been the lead patent attorney in litigated matters, and he has argued and won some of the earliest inter partes review (IPR) cases, including the first IPR case invalidating a design patent. His docket has over 75 IPR cases. He has also successfully argued appeals at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and he has helped clients obtain, enforce, license, invalidate, and avoid infringement of patents and trademarks in a wide range of technologies and industries. Mr. Poplin previously served as chair of the Intellectual Property Prosecution & Transactions department in a national law firm.
Anna Quinn
Anna Quinn is a principal at Avant Law Group, LLC. She counsels clients in all areas of patent acquisition and portfolio management in the U.S. and abroad, including drafting and prosecuting patents covering a wide variety of technologies in the chemical and mechanical arts. She also helps clients with due diligence and licensing for all types of intellectual property, and she has an extensive trademark and copyright practice. Ms. Quinn has been the lead patent attorney in litigated matters and has significant experience with inter partes review cases. She has taught patent prosecution as an adjunct law school professor, and early in her career she worked at one of the largest oil and gas companies in the world.
Matthew J. Schonauer
Attorney with Ulmer & Berne LLP in Cincinnati.Mr. Schonauer’s practice focuses on intellectual property prosecution. He has a variety of experience with federal trademark and copyright registration; patent prosecution; patent, trademark and copyright infringement litigation; trademark licensing; UDRP domain name disputes; and the representation of clients in Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB) proceedings. His practice includes the preparation and prosecution of domestic and international patent applications involving mechanical, electrical, aviation device, medical device, food and beverage preparation, business method, artificial intelligence, and software inventions. He also counsels clients on nationwide trademark licensing programs, branding strategies, Amazon marketplace disputes and brand protection, and international intellectual property portfolio protection. Prior to obtaining his law degree, Mr. Schonauer gained engineering and technical experience while working in the printed circuit board, quality control, network consulting, software development, and mechanical product design industries.
