Doug Beyerlein, PE, PH, D.WRE

Principal Engineer / Hydrology Expert with Clear Creek Solutions, Inc.

With over 50 years of expertise in water resources planning, flood studies, and stormwater modeling, Mr. Beyerlein co-founded Clear Creek Solutions after distinguished roles in the San Franciso Bay area and Snohomish County. As a senior hydrologic engineer, he played a key role in shaping Snohomish County’s surface water management program, excelling in watershed planning, monitoring, flood control, and compliance with water quality laws. A trailblazer in engineering, Mr. Beyerlein led the development of accurate tools for analyzing land development impacts on streams, earning his firm contracts for stormwater software in California, Oregon, and Washington. Having taught stormwater modeling to over 2000 professionals, he conducts workshops on HSPF theory and application. Licensed as a professional engineer in Washington and California, certified as a professional hydrologist, and a member of the American Academy of Water Resources Engineers, Mr. Beyerlein serves clients like the U.S. EPA and the Army Corps of Engineers. Noteworthy contributions include impactful stormwater papers such as “Why Standard Stormwater Mitigation Doesn’t Work” and “Dumbing Down Hydrology.”

After graduating from the University of North Texas with a B.S. degree in Biology and an M.S. degree in Environmental Science, Ms. Morris embarked on her stormwater career journey. Starting as an intern, she progressed to roles as an inspector, manager, and specialist, gaining valuable hands-on experience in the process. Her dedication to professional development is evident in her work. Having provided training to hundreds of contractors and engineers in her previous positions, she is committed to sharing her knowledge and improving industry practices. Course Title: NPDES Stormwater Management Program 2025

Delivery Method: Live Online 

Course Description: This 6.5-hour course focuses on the science of stormwater, management techniques (including runoff reduction, routing and storage), and the requirements of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES), such as permitting and regulation of activities. The course will also assess a wide variety of stormwater best management practices and explain the development of stormwater pollution prevention plans (SWPPPs) and plans for inspection, monitoring and maintenance.

Learning Objectives: 

Learning Objective 1: Learners will be able to adopt methods of stormwater runoff reduction, routing, storage and modeling, promote infiltration and percolation, and identify types and sources of various pollutants.

Learning Objective 2: Learners will be able to explain the regulatory principles of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System and how stormwater discharges from construction activities, industrial sources, municipal sources, transportation systems, and oil and gas activities are handled.

Learning Objective 3: Learners will be able to comply with NPDES permitting procedures, identify designation of impaired waters, and discuss emerging pollutants, current issues and strategies for pollutant reduction and management.

Learning Objective 4: Learners will be able to assess and utilize appropriate stormwater best management practices (BMPs), including green infrastructure such as permeable pavement, vegetated swales and green roofs.
