Each webinar session earns continuing education credit and can be registered for individually. All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. HalfMoon Education Inc. must be able to prove attendance if either the attendee or HalfMoon Education Inc. is audited.

Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

Eve BeauryPrinceton University
Dr. Evelyn Beaury received her PhD from the University of Massachusetts Amherst where she studied the spatial ecology and biogeography of plant invasions in the context of climate change. This work had a strong applied focus, thinking about how human activities influence invasions and what management/policy decisions we can make to prevent further spread. Evelyn is now a postdoctoral research associate at Princeton University, where she has broadened her research to think spatially about how we can increase carbon storage via changes in land use and land management.

Kim Eierman

Kim Eierman is the Founder of EcoBeneficial LLC. She is an environmental horticulturist and ecological landscape designer specializing in native plants. Based in New York, Ms. Eierman teaches at the New York Botanical Garden, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, The Native Plant Center, School and several other institutions. She is an active speaker nationwide on many ecological landscape topics. Ms. Eierman also provides horticultural consulting and landscape design services to landscape architects and designers, homeowners, municipalities, and commercial clients. In addition to being a certified horticulturist through the American Society for Horticultural Science, she is an accredited Organic Landcare Professional, a steering committee member of The Native Plant Center, and a member of The Ecological Landscape Alliance and Garden Communicators International. Ms. Eierman is the author of the book, The Pollinator Victory Garden: Win the War on Pollinator Decline with Ecological Gardening.

Bridget Ruemmele

Bridget RuemmeleProfessor at the University of Rhode Island
Ms. Ruemmele is a professor of plant breeding in the Department of Plant Sciences at the University of Rhode Island. She teaches introductory horticulture, turfgrass management, fruit culture, weed science and plant breeding and genetics. Her specialization is in turfgrass improvement and she has worked on the development of many different improved turfgrass varieties. She received her Ph.D in horticulture from the University of Minnesota in 1989.

Course Title: Northeast Native Plant Workshop: Native Plants in the Managed Landscape

Course Description: This 6-hour course for design professionals focuses on the science, benefits and applications of native plants, as well as on the identification, problems and removal of invasive plants. The primary goal of this course is to be able to create a robust landscape with native plants that also supports pollinators. The course also discusses the effects of climate change on native and invasive plants, deer-resistant design strategies, invasive plant management, and native alternatives to invasives and commonly used ornamentals.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to explain plant life cycles, growth habits, and the pros and cons of native species versus native cultivars, as well as adopt best practices for native plant selection.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to utilize native trees, shrubs, vines and perennials to support pollinators and understand the principles of ecological landscape design for pollinators.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to understand the impacts of climate change on native plant species, identify changes in phenology and impacts to wildlife, and discuss the response of invasive plants to climate change.
