Continuing Education Credit Information
This webinar is open to the public and offers 6.5 PDHs to professional engineers, 6.5 HSW continuing education hours to licensed architects, and 6.5 HSW continuing education hours to landscape architects in New York.

Engineers, architects, and landscape architects seeking continuing education credit in other states will be able to claim the hours earned at this webinar, in most cases. Refer to specific state rules to determine eligibility.

Speakers

Caroline M. Kilmer

Caroline M. Kilmer is a stormwater consultant with over 15 years of experience in stormwater management and water quality issues. She is a certified professional in erosion and sediment control (CPESC), stormwater quality (CPSWQ) and municipal stormwater management (CPMSM). She is the former executive director of the Monroe County Soil and Water Conservation District and also worked as an environmental specialist for the Maryland Department of the Environment. She received her B.A. degree in Biology from SUNY Oswego and her M.S degree in Biology from Illinois State University. Ms. Kilmer is also the current chairperson of the Water Education Collaborative (WEC). Her work currently focuses on providing education and technical assistance on the implementation of green infrastructure.

Course Title: New York Stormwater Management and Green Infrastructure: Permits, Practices and Implementation

Course Description: This 6.5-hour course provides design professionals with New York State permit requirements, an overview of green infrastructure, specific information about green infrastructure techniques and practices, and examples of successful green infrastructure.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to understand the requirements of New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) Stormwater Permit GP-0-20-001 and discuss the new draft GP-0-22-002 MS4 (Municipal Storm Sewer System) permit.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to explain the concepts and practices of green infrastructure (GI) as well as the water quality benefits and sizing criteria.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to preserve natural features through conservation design. This includes open space design and the preservation of buffers.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to utilize techniques for runoff reduction, including rain gardens, rain barrels, porous pavement, and stormwater planters.

Learning Objective 5:
Learners will be able to reference and comply with municipal codes, perform the proper maintenance, and review examples of green infrastructure projects.

Learners will be able to develop plans and practices for the reduction of impervious covers such as roadways, driveways, and sidewalks.
