All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. HalfMoon Education Inc. must be able to prove attendance if either the attendee or HalfMoon Education Inc. is audited.

Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

Continuing Education Credit Information
This seminar is open to the public and offers 7.0 continuing education hours to
professional engineers and 7.0 HSW continuing education hours to architects in
New York.

HalfMoon Education is deemed a New York-approved continuing education provider for
architects via its affiliation with the American Institute of Architects (Regulations of the
Commissioner §69.6(i)(2)).

This event is approved by the American Institute of Architects for 7.0 HSW Learning Units
(Sponsor No. J885). Only full attendance can be reported to the AIA/CES.

The New York State Education Department considers courses as approved for New
York State mandatory continuing education for professional engineers if the sponsor’s
courses are approved by the American Institute of Architects Continuing Education
System and are in approved subject areas.

Architects and engineers seeking continuing education credit in other states will be able
to apply the hours earned at this seminar, in most cases. Refer to specific state rules to
determine eligibility.

The International Code Council has approved this event for .7 CEUs in the specialty area
of Building (Preferred Provider No. 1232).

This event offers a non-credit continuing education opportunity to construction
contractors. It has not been approved by any state with a continuing education
requirement for contractors.

In-person attendance will be monitored, and attendance certificates will be available
after the seminar for most individuals who complete the entire event. Attendance
certificates not available at the seminar will be mailed to participants within fifteen
business days.

Completion certificates will be awarded to participants who complete this event online,
respond to all prompts, and earn a passing score (80%) on the quiz that follows the
presentation (multiple attempts allowed).

James A. D’Aloisio , P.E. LEED AP

Principal with Klepper, Hahn & Hyatt in Syracuse

Mr. D’Aloisio is a principal with Klepper, Hahn & Hyatt, a structural engineering, landscape architecture, and building envelope services firm in East Syracuse, New York. A graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and is a registered professional engineer in New York and Massachusetts. He is a member and past president (1997 – 1998) of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Syracuse Section, and a member of the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), the American Concrete Institute (ACI), the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), and the Structural Engineers Association of New York State (SEAoNY). Mr. D’Aloisio is a member of ASCE/SEI’s Frost-Protected Shallow Foundations Committee, the Structural Condition Assessment of Existing Buildings Committee, and the Sustainability Committee. Mr. D’Aloisio received the Order of the Engineer at Syracuse University in 1997. His 30-plus years’ experience as a consulting structural engineer has primarily involved the design of new building structures, additions, and modifications, and analyses, assessments, and investigations of structures and facades. Mr. D’Aloisio has performed structural condition reviews of over 15 million square feet of buildings and he has performed over 150 structural forensic investigations. He has presented over 300 times.

Course Title: New York Special Inspections under the IBC Chapter 17

Course Description: This course examines what materials and construction processes are subject to special inspections and testing under the International Building Code, including those for soils and foundations, masonry, concrete, steel, wood, fire-resistant materials, exterior insulation finishes, smoke control, and seismic and wind loads.

Learners will be able to identify code compliance and testing requirements for soil conditions and foundations, masonry, and concrete.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to identify code compliance and testing requirements for steel frames, shop fabrication, bolts, connection details, welding, pre-engineered metal buildings, steel decking, cold-formed steel framing, open-weld steel joists, and cold-formed steel trusses.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to identify code compliance and testing requirements for wood construction, including fasteners and connections, architectural wall panels, and metal plate connected wood trusses.
