Before undertaking any self-study effort, you should review the rules of your licensing/certifying entity.
You must take and pass a quiz in order to receive credit. You can take the quiz as many times as needed and there is no time limit on the quiz. Once the quiz is completed, you will be asked to download your certificate.
Videos that qualify for AIA, LACES, ASLA, or CLARB credit will require an extra week for processing.

Each webinar session earns continuing education credit and can be registered for individually. All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. Certificates of completion will be provided for each webinar attended and will be sent via email in PDF form about five business days after the conclusion of the series.

These webinars are open to the public and each offers 7.0 PDHs to professional engineers and 7.0 HSW continuing education hours to architects licensed in New York.
Engineers and architects seeking continuing education credit in other states will be able to claim the hours earned at this webinar, in most cases. Refer to specific state rules to determine eligibility.

Mr. Fertik is skilled in building homes, remodeling and new construction. In addition, he focuses on building science, energy efficiency and working towards net zero or better.
The Community Builders, Inc.
Ms. Melaragno serves as the Design and Construction Manager for The Community Builders, Inc., a position she has held since 2019. In this role Ms. Melaragno functions as a valuable resource to the regional development staff, providing specialized technical support related to both design and construction implementation at all phases of the development process.
Prior to joining The Community Builders, her experience included over 10 years as an Architect with the New York State Office of General Services (OGS). The role required simultaneously managing multiple large- and small-scale government projects from design through construction. Ms. Melaragno managed multiple design consultants as well as various engineering consultants, creating collaborative teams for successful project delivery. There she received the Commissioner’s Performance Award, for her participation as a member of the design team on a large-scale renovation of an historic State office building.
Ms. Melaragno earned a Bachelor of Architecture (Professional) from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute of Troy. She is a Registered Architect in New York State, nationally certified through NCARB (National Council of Architectural Registration Boards), a Certified Passive House Consultant (CPHC®) and a LEED Accredited Professional.
Manager at A2M Architecture
Architect and development manager of A2M NYC (M2A), Manon Meskens has 7 years of experience in Passive House design. She studied architecture and sustainable design at ULB in Brussels. There, she worked on Passive House buildings from small, residential projects to large-scale, urban planning throughout Europe. In 2018, she moved to New York City, where she has spearheaded sustainable projects throughout the U.S. and Canada while giving lectures and training professional networks.
As founding member of A2M, Sebastian Moreno-Vacca leads A2M’s vision, design aesthetic and drives to be the most sustainable and energy efficient architecture possible. Since starting the architecture firm A2M in 2000, Sebastian has led it to international recognition through his sustainable building knowledge and his numerous roles as president of the Board of the Belgian Passive House Association. Since 2006, he has also been teaching at ULB architecture university. In 2009, he co-founded and edited the magazine ‘be.passive’. He has been giving lectures regularly for several professional networks (architects, engineers and builders) for more than 20 years. He has also been giving an extensive set of presentations, conferences and trainings all over the world. A2M now has offices in Brussels and Lisbon, and a sister company, M2A, in the United States.

Course Description: This course covers the purposes, principles and development of the Passive House standard in the US. Topics include design of mechanical and electrical systems, architectural elements, and case studies of retrofits and new passive house construction in New York.
Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to describe the passive house building energy standard, identify energy calculation tools, and perform energy calculations to demonstrate that building systems meet the standard.
Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to design mechanical and energy systems to optimize heat gains and minimize heating and cooling loads.
Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to identify and explain the architectural elements of Passive Houses, including siting, sizing, orientation, super-insulated envelope with minimized thermal bridging, airtightness, heat recovery ventilation, and renewable energy technologies.

Learners will be able to discuss and reference case studies demonstrating how the passive house standard has been adapted for different regions and climates, including New York.
