Course Title: Distributed Energy Resources and Carbon Trading

Delivery Method: Live Online

Course Description: This three-hour live presentation focuses on four main components and their role in reaching carbon emissions and energy-efficiency goals as prescribed by NYC Local Law 97: solar photovoltaics, battery storage systems and microgrids, carbon allowance trading, and actual case studies.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to utilize solar photovoltaics in their design and understand the role of solar PV in meeting carbon emissions and energy-efficiency targets.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to identify the role of batteries in making solar-generated energy more reliable and practical, allowing users to cut their reliance on fossil-fuel generated electricity.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to understand the benefits and resiliency of microgrids and how their adoption can provide users, especially hospitals other essential buildings, with greater security in the event of an outage.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to examine real case studies and determine how these strategies work in practice to meet climate goals and reduce harmful emissions.

Learning Objective 5:
Learners will be able to identify the proper use and safe storage of battery systems and EV chargers, as large batteries can be a risk in the event of a fire.
