Continuing Education Credit Information
This course is open to the public and offers 6.5 PDHs to professional engineers and 6.5 HSW continuing education hours to licensed architects in New York. Engineers and architects seeking continuing education credit in other states will be able to claim the hours earned at this webinar, in most cases. Refer to specific state rules to determine eligibility.

Founder of Grin Sustainability in 2013
Grin Sustainability is a full-service consulting firm specializing in the sustainable built environment. Collaborating with building owners in pursuit of green building certifications, sustainable design facilitation and high-performance building training. Mr. Rosen is a New York State registered architect, LEED Fellow, certified energy manager, certified Passive House consultant, and certified healthcare facilities manager with over 35 years’ experience in the design, construction, and operation of healthcare facilities. His undergraduate degree and master’s degrees were earned at The New York Institute of Technology in Architecture and Energy Management, respectively. Mr. Rosen is the immediate past vice chairman of the Indoor Environmental Quality Technical Advisory Group for USGBC National, and he is a past chairman of the Water Efficiency Technical Advisory Group. Locally, he serves as a board member for the USGBC-LI Chapter, as well as being a past board member for the AIA-Long Island Chapter, where he chaired the Sustainable Design Committee. Mr. Rosen is an adjunct professor in the School of Architecture and Design at the New York Institute of Technology, currently instructing students in Sustainable Design, Building Construction, Building Code, ADA, and Environmental Systems. Working with the Urban Green Council, he is actively training architects, engineers, contractors, and code officials about the new NYC Energy Conservation Code. To date, he has trained more than 2,000 architects and engineers in New York State about the nuances of the current energy code. Formerly, Mr. Rosen served as the Director of Sustainability for Northwell Health, a large non-profit health system in the Greater NYC area. While there he was responsible for initiating and coordinating the System’s Sustainability Initiatives. He successfully led his team to 20 LEED certifications including 3 at the Platinum Level and 4 at the Gold Level.

Course Title: New York City’s Local Law 154: All-Electric New Buildings

Delivery Method: Live Online

Course Description: This 6.5 hour live presentation demonstrates how to comply New York City’s Local Law 154 which phases out fossil fuel use in gut renovations and new buildings by 2027. The course identifies sources of emissions and fossil fuel use, provides strategies in reduction, and demonstrates how to increase energy efficiency.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to identify the sources of carbon emissions in new building construction and operation, and the benefits of phasing out fossil fuel-burning appliances.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to locate the appropriate requirements and exceptions for various buildings types, and the phase-in of the requirements.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to discuss the design and practicality of all-electric kitchens, their benefits and the lack of natural gas in cooking.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to utilize all-electric HVAC and domestic hot water systems, including air-cooled heat pumps, VRF systems, geothermal exchange and heat pump hot water.

Learning Objective 5:
Learners will be able to identify synergies with Local Laws 84, 87 and 97 and discuss carbon taxes.

Learning Objective 6:
Learners will be able to utilize alternative methods of carbon emission reduction and energy efficiency, including air sealing, hot water recirculation and heat pump clothes dryers.
