Mr. McConnell’s parking design and consulting experience encompasses nearly 30 years of work with airports, government, military, transit, higher education, resort, healthcare, and corporate clients. He is a member of the National Parking Association’s Parking Consultants Council and a founding member of ASCE’s Structural Engineering Institute. He is well-versed in precast concrete, cast-in-place concrete, and steel construction. Mr. McConnell’s experience includes numerous restorations, parking study, and programming projects. Several of his projects have received LEED certification, and he is an accredited GBCI Parksmart Advisor.

Course Description: This course analyzes the new developments and trends in parking structure design, construction and operation. Our vehicles and methods of transportation are constantly evolving, and with the adoption of new technology, design professionals can create parking structures that can accommodate all types of vehicles, promote accessibility (for both pedestrian and driver), and meet the most current building codes and sustainability standards.
Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to discuss the trends in vehicle sizes, automated vehicles, transit-oriented development and mixed-use concepts and their impact on parking structure design.

Learners will be able to reference and comply with applicable building codes and standards, adopt design methods to improve durability and resilience, and discuss the sizing of parking structures.
