All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. HalfMoon Education Inc. must be able to prove attendance if either the attendee or HalfMoon Education Inc. is audited. 

Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

This webinar is open to the public and is designed to qualify for 3.0 PDHs for professional engineers and 3.0 HSW continuing education hours for licensed architects in all states that allow this learning method. Please refer to specific state rules to determine eligibility.

Speakers

Christopher McWhite, CBO, HCO

Mr. McWhite is from Indiana and a graduate of Vincennes University. He is an accomplished building inspector and plans examiner, with 20 years of experience in public and non-profit code enforcement and inspections. Mr. McWhite has served as an inspector and plans examiner in Massachusetts, Georgia, Virginia, and Indiana. He has served on the Massachusetts Construction Supervisor Licensing exam rewriting committee to help transition the exam from the 2009 to the 2015 International Codes, as a member of the International Code Council’s IPMC/IZC Code Development Committee, and as member of the ICC Building Membership Council and most recently BCAC. Mr. McWhite also currently serves as an ICC Governmental voting member representing Region 6. He has earned a combined 21 certifications ranging from SBCCI (Legacy Code) to ICC, including Housing Code Official, Building Code Specialist, Plumbing Code Specialist, Certified Building Official, and is currently two certifications away from Master Code Professional.

Course Title: Mixed-Use Buildings: More Than Just Mixed Occupancies

Delivery Method: Live Online 

Course Description: This three-hour course examines the issues and considerations related to mixed-use buildings, including zoning, code compliance, egress, and more. The course utilizes the various building codes as a framework for avoiding, identifying, and resolving common challenges design professionals face with mixed-use buildings.

Learning Objectives: 

Learning Objective 1: Learners will be able to review common definitions related to mixed-use buildings and discuss the various building codes that impact occupancy classification, design, zoning, and construction, including the IBC, IMC, IZC, and IPC.

Learning Objective 2: Learners will be able to understand the differences between mixing uses of a building and mixing occupancies by using IBC chapter 5 as guidance.

Learning Objective 3: Learners will be able to discuss special mixes and how they are treated in IBC chapters 4, 5, and 11.

Learning Objective 4: Learners will be able to utilize the IFC and IBC to identify and comply with load and egress requirements.
