Kristin Jacobs Alexander is a graduate of the University of Missouri – Kansas City Law School and previously graduated from Truman State University with a Bachelor of Science in Justice Systems. At UMKC, she was active in the Child and Family Services Clinic, where she represented clients in Family Court with adoption, paternity, dissolution, and guardianship cases. She was awarded the John Speca Family Law Award and authored “If the Genes Don’t Fit: An Overview Disestablishment Statutes” in the American Academy of Matrimonial Attorneys Journal, Spring 2011 Edition.

Kristin has been helping people in the Kansas City area resolve family law issues for over a decade. Kristin is a certified Guardian ad Litem and a licensed mediator, two important legal skills that gives Kristin insight into all perspectives in a family law case. Kristin is taking appointments in Jackson and Clay County, Missouri.

Kristin is a member of the Missouri and Kansas Bar, a member of the Disciplinary Committee, a participant of the Volunteer Attorney Project, member of the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, and Co-Vice Chair of the Family Law Section KCMBA.

Susan Amato, attorney and mediator, is recognized trailblazer in mediation and collaborative law, on the forefront of introducing, developing and utilizing these methods in the St. Louis legal arena. A graduate of Washington University School of Law, Susan holds the Martindale-Hubbell AV Peer Review rating for professional excellence. She is listed in The Best Lawyers in America in the areas of Collaborative Law: Family Law and Family Law and Family Law Mediation, she was named Best Lawyer’s 2014-2015 and 2019 St. Louis Collaborative Law: Family Law “Lawyer of the Year” and Best Lawyer’s 2016-2017 St. Louis Family Law Mediation “Lawyer of the Year”.

Erin Fox is originally from Jefferson City, Missouri. After graduating from Mizzou with a Bachelor’s degree in 2009, Erin moved to the area to attend law school at the University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Law and graduated with her JD in 2012 with Pro Bono Honors. She fell in love with the KC area and has been there since.

Erin has ten years of legal experience. She has worked in the areas of criminal defense, Social Security Disability, creditor’s rights, and family law. Her diverse experience enables her to see the impact of her client’s outcomes beyond the written judgment. She has practiced in municipal, state, and federal courtrooms. She has practiced exclusively family law since 2017 and took over her mentor’s practice in 2020. Erin is a certified Guardian ad Litem, taking appointments in Cass and Bates County. She is the First Vice President of the Cass County Bar Association.

When not wearing her attorney hat, Erin enjoys reading, traveling, playing tennis, and spending time with her family. Licensure: MO, KS.

Jessica N. Foxx was born and raised in Independence, Missouri. She attended William Chrisman High School. After high school, she graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Central Missouri with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. Prior to law school, she worked for seven years as an estate planning and probate paralegal at Stewart, Cook, Constance & Minton, LLC. Jessica then attended the University of Missouri – Kansas City where she graduated with honors and an emphasis in Family Law. During law school, she interned with the Jackson County Circuit Court and the Department of Homeland Security. Jessica was also active in the UMKC Child and Family Services Clinic, where she represented clients under Rule 13 certification in family law matters. She served as president of the Family Law Society, Secretary of the Animal Law Society, and as a staff member for the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers Law Journal.

Upon graduation from law school, Jessica was law clerk to the Honorable Jack R. Grate with the Jackson County Circuit Court for two and a half years. During that time, she oversaw numerous civil, criminal, and domestic hearings and trials. She went on from there to start her own law firm, Foxx Law, L.L.C.

She is a published author in the Journal of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and the UMKC Law Review. Jessica is the current assistant director at UMKC’s Child and Family Services Clinic, where she supervises law students in dissolution matters, paternity actions, adoptions, minor guardianships, and name changes.

Jessica is licensed to practice law in Missouri and is a certified Guardian ad Litem. Her practice is mainly dedicated to family law. She represents clients in dissolution of marriage, modification of custody and child support actions, establishment and termination of child support actions, adoptions, grandparent’s rights cases, paternity actions, name changes, guardianship and conservatorship proceedings, estate planning, decedents’ estates administration, and traffic tickets.

Shannon Gordon is a partner at the Gordon Law Firm, LLC in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, where she practices with her husband, Robert. The Gordon Law Firm focuses its practice exclusively on domestic relations matters. Shannon has extensive experience litigating dissolution of marriage actions, paternity establishment proceedings, and other custody and child support matters. Shannon is also a frequently appointed Guardian ad Litem. Shannon has been named to Missouri Lawyer’s Media Family Law “Power List” for the last 3 years, a special publication naming the 30 most influential family law attorneys in the state of Missouri. In addition, Shannon is a 2022 recipient of the SuperLawyers designation, and was named to their “Rising Stars” list from 2017-2020. Shannon volunteers her time by serving on the Board of Directors for Jackson County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), and Mother’s Refuge, a homeless shelter for pregnant teens located in Independence, Missouri. She is a 2010 graduate of the UMKC School of Law.

Christen Shepherd is a solo practitioner concentrating in the area of Family Law. She enjoys working with families in an effort to resolve their disputes and move forward with their lives in a more peaceful manner, whenever possible. Ms. Shepherd has associated with Kansas City firms in the areas of federal criminal defense, plaintiff’s personal injury and insurance defense, and creditor collections.

Ms. Shepherd is on the board of directors for The Lawyers Association of Kansas City, a public service-oriented organization. With this organization, she is chair of the committee for public education in the law and helps put on the Mini Law School for the Public each year. Ms. Shepherd is also a member of The Missouri Bar and its Solo and Small Firm Committee and a member of the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, and its Domestic Relations Committee. She received her B.S. degree in advertising from The University of Texas at Austin in 1987 and worked in advertising before pursuing law school. She received her J.D. degree from the University of Missouri at Kansas City in 1999, where she served on the Law Review, the Moot Court Board, and the UMKC Trial Team. Ms. Shepherd was awarded the Tiera Farrow Outstanding Community Member award in April 2011 by the UMKC chapter of the Association of Women Law Students for community service in support of women in the law. She is a member of the Order of Barristers and admitted to practice in Missouri and Kansas.
