Continuing Education Information
This webinar is open to the public and is designed to qualify for 6.5 PDHs for professional engineers and 6.5 HSW continuing education hours for licensed architects. Engineers licensed in Massachusetts are not subject to a continuing education requirement. This course may qualify for credits in other states; please refer to specific state rules to determine eligibility.
The Massachusetts Board of Registration of Architects automatically accepts courses approved by the American Institute of Architects (AIA). The American Institute of Architects Continuing Education System has approved this course for 6.5 HSW LUs (Sponsor No. J885). Only full participation is reportable to the AIA/CES.
The International Code Council has approved this event for .65 CEUs in the specialty area of Energy (Preferred Provider No. 1232).
Attendance will be monitored, and attendance certificates will be available after the webinar for those who attend the entire course and score a minimum 80% on the quiz that follows the course (multiple attempts allowed).

Christopher McWhite, CBO, HCO
Mr. McWhite is from Indiana and a graduate of Vincennes University. He is an accomplished building inspector and plans examiner, with 20 years of experience in public and non-profit code enforcement and inspections. Mr. McWhite has served as an inspector and plans examiner in Massachusetts, Georgia, Virginia, and Indiana. He has served on the Massachusetts Construction Supervisor Licensing exam rewriting committee to help transition the exam from the 2009 to the 2015 International Codes, as a member of the International Code Council’s IPMC/IZC Code Development Committee, and as member of the ICC Building Membership Council and most recently BCAC. Mr. McWhite also currently serves as an ICC Governmental voting member representing Region 6. He has earned a combined 21 certifications ranging from SBCCI (Legacy Code) to ICC, including Housing Code Official, Building Code Specialist, Plumbing Code Specialist, Certified Building Official, and is currently two certifications away from Master Code Professional.

Course Title: Massachusetts Residential Energy Efficiency and Stretch Code Requirements

Course Description: This 6.5-hour course focuses on residential energy efficiency and uses the Massachusetts Stretch Energy Code (residential) as a framework. The course will discuss the administration of the code and analyze residential chapters 2-5, focusing on definitions, general requirements, base energy code provisions, HVAC and lighting systems, electric power and existing buildings. The course will concentrate on Stretch Code requirements, code compliance and compliance alternatives.
Learning Objectives:
Learning Objective 1: Learners will be able to identify opportunities to increase energy efficiency of lighting systems, hot water systems and mechanical ventilation systems.
Learning Objective 2: Learners will be able to utilize ResCheck to determine the energy efficiency of a structure and explain how to obtain Passive House Building Certification.
Learning Objective 3: Learners will be able to analyze the electrical wiring for electric vehicle charging in residential structures.
Learning Objective 4: Learners will be able to reference and comply with the Massachusetts Stretch Energy Code’s requirements related to building additions, alterations and repairs.
