The Florida DBPR Board of Landscape Architecture generally accepts courses approved by the Landscape Architecture Continuing Education System (LA CES). Landscape architects licensed in Florida are encouraged to review The 2021 Florida Statutes, 481.313(4) to determine course eligibility.

Dr. Stephen J. Souza, Ph.D.

Owner of Clean Waters Consulting, LLC in New Jersey

Dr. Souza has over 35 years of professional expertise in the management and restoration of water resources. This includes the design and application of a wide array of green infrastructure stormwater management techniques. He received his B.S. from the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth (1974), his M.S. from Rutgers University (1976), and his Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut (1981). Dr. Souza is the founding partner of Princeton Hydro, serving as the company’s president until his retirement in 2018. He is an instructor and course coordinator for the Rutgers NJAES Office of Continuing Professional Education as well as for Continuing Professional Education Services, LLC. Dr. Souza is also an Adjunct Professor at Temple University (Department of Landscape and Horticulture – Tyler School of Art and Agriculture).

Course Title: Maintenance of Green Infrastructure Practices

Course Description: This two-hour course provides detailed information and guidance on the maintenance of green infrastructure practices. Different kinds of green infrastructure require specialized tracking and maintenance to ensure continued operation. This course identifies the different types of green infrastructure and provides the necessary guidance and solutions to design professionals to adequately maintain them.

Learners will be able to design and implement a method of scheduling and tracking maintenance on green infrastructure to ensure constant operation.

Learners will be able to identify and satisfy the special maintenance requirements of vegetated BMPs.
