This webinar is open to the public and is designed to qualify for 7.0 PDHs for professional engineers and 7.0 HSW continuing education hours for licensed architects in Massachusetts.

Christopher McWhite, CBO, HCO

Mr. McWhite is a graduate of Vincennes University. He has served as an inspector and plans examiner in Massachusetts, Georgia, Virginia, and Indiana. He has served on the Massachusetts Construction Supervisor Licensing exam rewriting committee to help transition the exam from the 2009 to the 2015 International Codes, as a member of the International Code Council’s IPMC / IZC Code Development Committee, and as member of the ICC Building Membership Council. Mr. McWhite has earned a combined 21 Certifications from SBCCI (Legacy Code) and ICC including Housing Code Official, Building Code Specialist, Plumbing Code Specialist, Certified Building Official, and is currently two certifications away from Master Code Professional.

Course Title: Massachusetts State Building Code, Ninth Edition

Course Description: This seven-hour course begins with a discussion on the administration, amendments and key definitions of the Massachusetts State Building Code, Ninth Edition, before closely analyzing chapters 3-12, 14-16, 18-26, and 31-35. The course will cover code-compliant fire protection, egress, accessibility, structural design, roofs, HVAC, MEP systems, and more.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to determine the applicable occupancy group and the requirements for building heights and areas for various types of structures as described in Chapters 3-5 of the code.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to identify various types of construction and the requirements for fire and smoke protection systems and life safety systems per Chapters 6-9.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to reference Chapters 10-11 of the code for design requirements related to exits, exit access, and accessible routes, entrances and facilities.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to adopt code-compliant construction techniques and use of specific materials, including concrete, masonry, wood, aluminum, steel and glass.
