Continuing Education Credit Information

This webinar is open to the public and is designed to qualify for 6.5 PDHs for professional engineers and 6.5 HSW continuing education hours for licensed architects in all states that allow this learning method. Please refer to specific state rules to determine eligibility.

After working in engineering and design management with award-winning structural and construction firms for nearly 10 years, Mr. Woods founded his own firm, Woods Residential Engineering & Inspection. He is a licensed professional engineer in multiple states, and he holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Civil Engineering (with a focus on structures) from Washington University in St. Louis. He has earned “Accredited Professional” status from the U.S. Green Building Council. Mr. Woods is a member of: The Woods Educational Enrichment Foundation, the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) (Director of Programs for the Chicago professional chapter), the American Society of Civil Engineers, and the Structural Engineers Association of Illinois (SEAOI) (Member of the Diversity and Inclusion committee).

Course Title: Load Paths: Determining Member Loads in Structure

Course Description: This course examines design considerations for determining member loads on structures. Topics include gravity load paths, lateral load paths, roofs and trusses, floors and foundations, and shear walls and frames.

Learners will be able to be able to design structures that account for gravity load paths from floor to beam, beam to column, and column to footing.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to reference and discuss components and cladding supports that account for lateral load paths.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to discuss and reference design considerations for top chord bearing trusses, bottom chord bearing trusses, and A-frame roof trusses.
