Catherine W. Anglin is a civil litigation attorney who leverages her experience handling complex toxic tort cases with her prior career as an environmental consultant to serve clients in technically and legally complex matters. She focuses her practice on complex toxic tort and products liability litigation, environmental law, health & safety, and construction law.  She has experience in a full range of environmental law matters, including Brownfields projects, sinkholes, mold, and landfills. Similarly, she has experience related to the full suite of potential contaminants – from asbestos, PFAS, VOCs, SVOCs, metals and nitroaromatics to coal combustion residues (“CCRs”).

Catherine received her law degree from the University of Tennessee in 2009 and her Bachelor of Science from Georgia Tech in 1996. 

Thomas B. Hall concentrates his practice on construction litigation and arbitration. He represents owners, prime contractors, design professionals, subcontractors, and suppliers in various matters, including commercial and residential construction projects. With a keen understanding of Tennessee’s construction laws, Thomas helps his clients navigate the intricacies of compliance requirements as well as the prosecution and defense of construction defect and warranty claims, lien claims, delay and disruption claims, and a wide variety of other complex construction disputes.

After graduating cum laude from Sewanee with a Bachelor of Arts degree, Thomas attended The University of Alabama School of Law, where he earned his Juris Doctor, Master of Business Administration, and Master of Laws in Taxation magna cum laude.

Before joining the firm, Thomas represented clients in complex construction litigation matters as an associate at Smith Cashion & Orr, PLC. During law school, he served as a Judicial Extern and Judicial Intern for The Honorable Jennifer H. Henderson of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Alabama. He was also a Judicial Intern for The Honorable L. Scott Coogler of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama and was elected President of the School of Law’s chapter of the American Constitution Society. In his free time, Thomas enjoys being with his family, providing pro bono legal services and attending high school football games at his alma mater, Franklin High School.

Justin Joy leads Lewis Thomason’s cybersecurity practice group and is the firm’s privacy officer.  He provides counsel to clients in a variety of industries in the area of information privacy and cybersecurity including incident investigation and breach response management, regulatory compliance, privacy and security policy review and drafting, and cyber risk management. He speaks frequently to various groups and organizations on the topic of information privacy and cybersecurity. 

Scott W.  Smilie is a partner in the Intellectual Property Practice Group of the firm. Mr. Smilie’s experience includes the prosecution, licensing, and litigation of patents, trademarks and copyrights.  As a member of the Patent Bar, he has prepared and prosecuted patents before the Patent and Trademark Office concerning diverse technologies including GPS-related systems, business methods, electrical connectors, coupler members for heavy-duty machinery, mechanical tools, and medical devices.  Mr. Smilie was admitted to the Illinois State Bar and the Bar of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois in 1997, and he is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.  He is a member of the Chicago Bar Association and the Intellectual Property Law Association of Chicago.

Alicia J. Teubert, Esq. is a transactional attorney who has 12+ years of experience in business transactions, banking and finance, commercial real estate, construction, contracts, corporate and commercial law, mergers and acquisitions, nonprofit governance and secured transactions.  She is a member of the Business Law Section and Real Estate Law Section of the Tennessee Bar Association.

Ms. Teubert assists businesses and organizations across numerous industries in transactional matters including forming entities, drafting contracts, advising on governance and commercial matters, structuring and negotiating transactions, conducting closings, transferring interests, and dissolving entities.  She has extensive experience in commercial real estate including acquisition, development, construction, finance, title work, and sale having represented owners, developers, lenders, architects, engineers, general contractors, and subcontractors.  She has also represented both landlords and tenants in commercial lease negotiations and modifications.

W. Paul Whitt Esq., a shareholder in the firm’s Knoxville office, practices in the areas of construction law and litigation, including professional liability defense of design professionals, such as engineers, architects and surveyors, as well as professional liability representation of accountants and lawyers. He also has significant experience in general civil litigation and in the representation of insurance carriers in first party actions brought by insureds related to coverage matters, claims of bad faith, insurance fraud and other extra-contractual matters.
