All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. HalfMoon Education Inc. must be able to prove attendance if either the attendee or HalfMoon Education Inc. is audited.

Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

This webinar is open to the public and is designed to qualify for 7.0 PDHs for professional engineers and 7.0 HSW continuing education hours for licensed architects in Iowa.

The American Institute of Architects Continuing Education System has approved this course for 7.0 HSW LUs (Sponsor No. J885). Only full participation is reportable to the AIA/CES. 

The International Code Council has approved this event for .7 CEUs in the specialty area of Building (Preferred Provider No. 1232). 

Attendance will be monitored, and attendance certificates will be available after the webinar for those who attend the entire course and score a minimum 80% on the quiz that follows the course (multiple attempts allowed).

Joseph Iliff has been a building official, building inspector, and city planner for more than 25 years, serving cities in Indiana, Texas, Missouri, and Illinois. He earned an undergraduate degree in Urban Planning and Development from Ball State University. He holds certifications as a residential building inspector, building official, city planner, and floodplain manager. He has taught classes on the residential, building, and property maintenance codes with a focus on preparing students for certification exams and effective administration.

Course Title: Iowa Residential Codes

Delivery Method: Live Online

Course Description: This seven-hour course closely analyzes and explains the provisions and regulations of the Iowa Residential Code. The course focuses on the development and enforcement of the code, building planning, shell construction, energy efficiency, and mechanical, fuel, plumbing and electrical systems.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to discuss the history and development of the International Residential Code, the adoption, amendment and enforcement of the codes in Iowa (including county and municipal codes), and the permitting process.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to utilize chapters 2-10 of the Code for building planning and shell construction. Topics include live loads, seismic provisions, ceiling heights, garages, ingress and egress stairways, fire detection, wood products, roof assemblies, framing, foundations, and much more.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to utilize chapter 11 of the Code to increase energy efficiency by giving special consideration to climate classifications, thermal envelopes, insulation, fenestration, and lighting.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to reference applicable codes for information guiding the design and construction of mechanical, fuel, plumbing and electrical systems. Topics include fuel gas system and appliances, plumbing fixtures, drains, backflow preventers, overcurrent devices, electrical outlets, pools, hot tubs, and much more.
