Webinar Instructions

Each webinar session earns continuing education credit and can be registered for individually. All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. HalfMoon Education Inc. must be able to prove attendance if either the attendee or HalfMoon Education Inc. is audited.

Certificates of completion will be provided for each webinar attended and will be sent via email in PDF form about five business days after the conclusion of the series.

Webinars are presented via GoToWebinar, an easy-to-use application that can be run on most systems and tablets. Instructions and login information will be provided in an email sent close to the date of the webinar. It is highly recommended that you download, install and test the application before the webinar begins by clicking on the link in the email.

This seminar/webinar offers 7.0 PDHs to professional engineers and 7.0 HSW PDHs/
continuing education hours to architects and landscape architects in most states,
including Tennessee. Educators and courses are not subject to preapproval in
Tennessee.

This course has been approved by the American Institute of Architects Continuing
Education System for 7.0 LU|HSW for both in-person and online participation (Sponsor
No. J885). The Landscape Architecture Continuing Education System has approved
this course for 7.0 HSW PDHs for both in-person and online attendance. Only full
participation is reportable to the AIA/CES and LA CES.

The Association of State Floodplain Managers has approved this course for 7.0 CECs for
certified floodplain managers.

Attendance will be monitored, and attendance certificates will be available after the
seminar (in-person) for most individuals who complete the entire event. Attendance
certificates not available at the seminar will be mailed to participants within fifteen
business days.

Completion certificates will be awarded to participants who complete this event online,
and earn a passing score (80%) on the quiz that follows the presentation (multiple
attempts allowed).

Speakers

Gregory H. Nail PhD PE

Associate Professor, University of Tennessee at Martin

Dr. Nail is an associate professor in the Engineering Department at the University of Tennessee at Martin where he teaches a variety of courses including fluid mechanics, hydraulics and hydrology, and hydraulic and hydrologic modeling. He holds a professional engineer’s license based on having passed both the Civil and Mechanical discipline-specific exams. Prior to coming to UT-Martin in 2002 he worked as a research hydraulic engineer for the United States Army Corp of Engineers for 11 years. He is a former member of the Executive Committee of the Tennessee American Water Resources Association, and he has lectured on various HEC-RAS modeling topics at the Annual Tennessee Water Resources Symposium and at other venues. Course Title: Introduction to HEC-RAS Modeling

Delivery Method: Live Online

Course Description: This seven-hour live lecture presentation examines open channel hydraulics for analyzing the flow of water through natural rivers and other channels. and how modeling can be used in the design of bridges and culverts, to forecast the encroachment of rivers and wetlands on development sites, and to model stormwater drainage.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to discuss the principles of open channel hydraulics, including the conservation of momentum, conservation of energy, Bernoulli’s Equation.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to model bridges and culverts in HEC-RAS using expansion and contraction coefficients and stead flow simulations, and they will be able to view and interpret the model results.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able create a typical HEC-RAS culvert model using steady flow simulation, and they will be able to view and interpret the results.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able create a typical HEC-RAS river/wetland/floodplain encroachment model and be able to view and interpret the results.

LUs: 7.0                                                                                              LU Type: LU|HSWs.

Prerequisites: Experience with site development

Advance Preparation: None
