 Webinar Instructions

All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. HalfMoon Education Inc. must be able to prove attendance if either the attendee or HalfMoon Education Inc. is audited.

Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

Webinars are presented via GoToWebinar, an easy-to-use application that can be run on most systems and tablets. Instructions and login information will be provided in an email sent close to the date of the webinar. It is highly recommended that you download, install and test the application before the webinar begins by clicking on the link in the email.

Continuing Education Credit Information
Illinois Structural Design Loads under the ASCE 7 Standard
This webinar is open to the public and offers 7.0 PDHs to professional engineers, and 7.0 HSW contact hours to architects in Illinois. Educators and courses are not subject to preapproval in Illinois.

Engineers and architects seeking continuing education credit in other states will be able to apply the hours earned at this event, in most cases. Refer to specific state rules to determine eligibility.

The American Institute of Architects Continuing Education System has approved this course for 7.0 LU|HSW (Sponsor No. J885). Only full participation is reportable to the AIA/CES.

The International Code Council has approved this event for .70 CEUs in the specialty area of Building (Preferred Provider No. 1232).

Attendance will be monitored, and attendance certificates will be available after the seminar/webinar for most individuals who complete the entire event. Attendance certificates not available at the seminar will be mailed to participants within fifteen business days.

Speakers

Robin M. Closs

Robin M. Closs has 15 years of experience as a structural engineer designing and analyzing anything from pipes to multistory buildings in fields such as commercial, power, government, institutional, nuclear, industrial, and residential. She traveled to Long Island in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy as part of a Code Enforcement Disaster Assistance Response Team. Her engineering knowledge in timber, concrete, steel, masonry, aluminum, and light gauge metal has helped her design new buildings, complete renovations and additions, demolish existing structures, produce mechanical platforms, and design appropriate repairs to roofs, walls, floors, and spillways. Ms Closs is the president of The Engineering Society of Buffalo and currently creates, writes, and edits their newsletter. She also regularly spends time tutoring and greatly enjoys assisting young minds to see the benefits of engineering. She has also acted as the principal coordinator for 80-person volunteer teams, judged inventions, and mentored winners of engineering city competitions. Ms Closs graduated from the Milwaukee School of Engineering with a BS degree in Architectural Engineering with a Structural Specialty. She is a licensed professional engineering in multiple states, is a licensed structural engineer in Illinois, and is certified as a NCEES Model Law Structural Engineer. Her goal is to meet client needs in a positive and timely fashion.

Course Title: Illinois Structural Design Loads under the ASCE 7 Standard

Delivery Method: Live Online

Course Description: This course examines design considerations for various loads that act on structures, including earthquakes, dead loads, live loads, soil loads, and wind, snow, and ice loads.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to classify building and structures, identify types of structural loads, and define structural integrity.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to calculate seismic loads and determine seismic ground motion values.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to determine dead loads, or the weight of the building, and the will be able to estimate the live (or variable) loads that are expected to act on the structure.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to describe how to determine and appropriately design for soil loads, wind loads, snow and ice, and combinations of loads.
