Course Title: Illinois Fire Protection Design and Construction

Delivery Method: Live Online

Course Description: This six-hour course examines fire protection design and construction requirements applicable to buildings in Illinois, with a focus on how fire behavior, codes, and building systems work together to reduce risk. The course addresses fire detection, alarm systems, suppression systems, fire-resistant construction assemblies, and code-required egress and emergency systems. Emphasis is placed on applying current building and fire codes to support safe, code-compliant design and construction decisions.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1: Learners will be able to explain basic fire behavior and dynamics in buildings and how these principles influence fire protection design decisions.

Learning Objective 2: Learners will be able to identify key fire protection requirements within the IBC, IRC, IEBC, IFC, and applicable NFPA codes as they relate to building design and construction.

Learning Objective 3: Learners will be able to differentiate between fire detection, alarm, notification, and suppression systems and evaluate their appropriate application within buildings.

Learning Objective 4: Learners will be able to analyze fire-resistant construction assemblies and egress system requirements to support safe occupant evacuation during fire events.
