Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

This webinar is open to the public and is designed to qualify for 2.0 PDHs for professional engineers, 2.0 HSW continuing education hours for licensed architects, and 2.0 HSW continuing education hours for landscape architects in all states that allow this learning method. Steven Trinkaus, PE

Principal at Trinkaus Engineering, LLC, in Southbury, CT

Mr. Trinkaus is an internationally recognized expert in the field of low impact development, having presented at many ASCE/EWRI international conferences and many other regional conferences and workshops on LID and water quality issues. He has been an invited presenter and consultant in Taiwan, China, and South Korea. He has also presented on Sustainable Stormwater at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. Mr. Trinkaus has written LID design manuals for the Towns of Tolland, Plainville, Harwinton, East Granby, and Morris, Connecticut. He has designed many types of LID treatment systems for a variety of residential and commercial applications. Mr. Trinkaus is chair of the EWRI LID Guidance Document Task Committee and primary author of the Committee’s national guidance document on adopting LID standards. Mr. Trinkaus is a licensed professional engineer in Connecticut and Maryland. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Forest Management in 1980 from the University of New Hampshire. He has more than 38 years of experience in the land development field, more than 19 years of experience designing low impact development treatment systems, and six years of experience writing LID regulations and design manuals.

Course Title: How to Use Berms and Swales for Stormwater Infiltration

Course Description: This course examines how to use use vegetated swales and infiltration berms to facilitate filtration and slow the flow of stormwater. Topics includes types of berms and swales, their benefits and drawbacks, and case studies of appropriate applications of each type.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to discuss and explain how berms and swales can be used to accomplish two primary goals of stormwater management: slowing the flow of stormwater, and facilitating infiltration.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to identify the types of swales and determine how to properly use them to meet stormwater objectives.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to identify types of infiltration berms, explain their benefits and drawbacks, and manage issues that arise in design and construction.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to evaluate case studies of appropriate selection, design and construction of vegetated swales and infiltration berms.
