Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

This webinar is open to the public and is designed to qualify for 2.0 PDHs for professional engineers, 2.0 HSW continuing education hours for licensed architects, and 2.0 HSW continuing education hours for landscape architects in all states that allow this learning method. Dr. Stephen J. Souza, Ph.D.
Owner of Clean Waters Consulting, LLC in New JerseyDr. Souza is the owner of Clean Waters Consulting and was the founding partner of Princeton Hydro, LLC. From its inception in 1998 through 2018, he served as president of Princeton Hydro, retiring from the company in 2019. Over the past 35 years he has dedicated his career to the management and restoration of aquatic ecosystems, in particular lakes, ponds and reservoirs. Dr. Souza received his B.S. degree in 1974 from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth, his M.S. degree in 1976 from Rutgers University, and his Ph.D. degree in 1981 from the University of Connecticut. He has served over the past 25 years as an instructor and course coordinator for the Rutgers NJAES Office of Continuing Professional Education, developing and implementing multiple short courses focused on the management and restoration of aquatic ecosystems. Dr. Souza is also an adjunct professor at Temple University (Ambler Campus), teaching a graduate studies course in the Department of Landscape and Horticulture (Tyler School of Art and Agriculture). He also conducts a professional continuing education course focusing on green infrastructure stormwater management for CPES through Montclair State University.

Course Title: How to Naturalize an Existing Stormwater Detention/Retention Basin

Course Description: This course examines the principles and practice of transforming traditional dry-bottom basins into naturalized basins that improve water quality and provide a host of environmental benefits.
Learning Objectives:
Learning Objective 1: Learners will be able to explain what naturalization is, why it’s important, and the potential environmental benefits.
Learning Objective 2: Learners will be able to describe how to make changes to the basin’s size, shape, inlet and outflow to facilitate naturalization and improve function.
Learning Objective 3: Learners will be able to identify methods of improving basin soils and select appropriate plants to promote diffusion and infiltration.
Learning Objective 4: Learners will be able to recognize when maintenance is required and effectively plan for regular maintenance.
