Professional Engineer, Principal Water Resources Engineer with Geosyntec

Wade Burcham graduated from the University of Alabama in Birmingham. His 21 years of experience has been focused on natural stream stabilization, water resources engineering, stormwater management, municipal engineering and contract administration. This experience has facilitated a balanced viewpoint from perspectives obtained as a civil engineer, a municipal consultant and a developer’s representative. He enjoys learning sustainable and innovative design practices and applying those techniques in developing countries through his volunteer work with Engineering Ministries International and other faith-based mission efforts.

Course Description: This course examines the need for stormwater detention basins, How they work, codes that specify their requirements, how to design them, and how much they typically cost.

Learners will be able to explain the need for storm water detention basins and how urbanization exacerbates the importance of detention basins.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to explain how detentions basins work and describe two commonly-used detention basin models.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to take advantage of TR-55 – Hydro CAD to calculate storm water runoff and storage volumes.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to discuss how HEC-HMS offers storm water detention basin modeling, typical dry detention costs, and frequently observed detention basin design challenges.
