Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

This webinar is open to the public and is designed to qualify for 1.5 PDHs for professional engineers, 1.5 HSW continuing education hours for licensed architects, and 1.5 HSW continuing education hours for landscape architects in all states that allow this learning method. Denise R. Ellsworth

Program Director, Pollinator Education with the Department of Entomology/Extension at The Ohio State University
Denise R. Ellsworth directs the honey bee and native pollinator education program through The Ohio State University Department of Entomology on the Wooster campus. In this outreach position, she supports and teaches beekeepers, farmers, gardeners and others across the state through a variety of workshops, webinars, written materials and electronic resources. Ms. Ellsworth has bachelor of science and master of science degrees from The Ohio State University. Her areas of emphasis are in bee health, integrated pest management, pollinator identification, conservation and habitat enhancement, plant and insect phenology, adult education and citizen science.

Course Title: How to Create Pollinator Habitat

Delivery Method: Live Online

Course Description: This 1.5-hour course for design professionals provides guidance on how to create and maintain a healthy habitat for pollinators. The course explains what pollinators need in their habitat, how and why to select certain plants, strategies to attract pollinators and maintenance practices.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to understand what pollinators need from plants (nectar, pollen and more) and the keys to successful pollinator habitat.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to discuss flower seasonality, diversity and abundance, native plants, including cultivars, and some key plants for pollinators.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to utilize strategies to attract pollinators no matter the garden style and discuss challenges such as pesticides and bee hotels.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to maintain the habitat through the year and over time to preserve the natural networks, protect pollinators and benefit the surrounding environment.
