Mr. Lile is the owner of Lile Engineering, which specializes in commercial energy solutions and LEED certification consulting. Mr. Lile has worked in the design industry for over 30 years, on healthcare, industrial, commercial and educational construction projects. He has been involved in electrical and mechanical design, as well as construction management and commissioning. He has volunteered for local city boards and commissions, including the City of Columbia Energy and Environment Commission, which he chaired from 2009 – 2015, helping the City review and adopt new building codes. Mr. Lile is a licensed Professional Engineer in Missouri.

Course Description: This course examines how to classify occupancy classification and use, construction types, building heights and area, means of egress, and the five types of walls.
Learning Objectives:
Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to discuss and compare occupancy classifications based on assembly, business, educational, factory, institutional, high hazard, mechanical, residential, storage, and utility.
Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to identify the five types of construction based on the IBC and the new heavy timber types found in 2021 IBC.
Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to identify compline standards for IBC provisions for building height and area, mixed use, incidental use, occupancy, and sprinkler systems.
Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to identify compline standards for IBC provisions for means of egress based on exit access, occupant load, number of exits, exit width, travel distances, and corridors and passageways.
Learning Objective 5:
Learners will be able to identify the five types of walls and their fire and smoke ratings in the IBC
