Webinar Instructions

Each webinar session earns continuing education credit and can be registered for individually. All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. HalfMoon Education Inc. must be able to prove attendance if either the attendee or HalfMoon Education Inc. is audited.

Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

Webinars are presented via GoToWebinar, an easy-to-use application that can be run on most systems and tablets. Instructions and login information will be provided in an email sent close to the date of the webinar. It is highly recommended that you download, install and test the application before the webinar begins by clicking on the link in the email.

Tyler Dawson Ph.D. P.E.

Project Engineer with NTH Consultants, Ltd. in Lansing, Michigan
Dr. Dawson is in his sixth year as a pavement, geotechnical, and subsurface utility engineer with NTH Consultants, Ltd. (NTH). He has a wide background in pavement research, management, and design. He has completed research projects for the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) involving pavement design, material characterization, maintenance, and management. He has participated in and led several projects which have included pavement surface and structural evaluations, geotechnical explorations, subsurface utility engineering (SUE), and transportation utility coordination. Dr. Dawson’s geotechnical design experience includes earth retention, embankment, road sign and signal, ITS structure, bridge, and other deep and shallow foundations using LRFD and other techniques. He has also led several geophysical investigations to locate buried structures/utilities and subsurface voids. Dr. Dawson earned his B.S. degree, M.S. degree and Ph.D. degree from Michigan State University. 

Dr. Sharareh Shirzad

Assistant Professor at Appalachian State University
Dr. Sharareh Shirzad is an assistant professor at the Department of Sustainable Technology and the Built Environment at Appalachian State University. Before that, she worked as a graduate research assistant at Louisiana State University and Louisiana Transportation Research Center. She obtained her Ph.D. from the Department of Construction Management at LSU working on light-activated self-healing asphalt materials. She also holds a graduate certificate in Materials Science and Engineering. Dr. Shirzad’s research expertise and interest are in the broad theme of sustainable infrastructure and sustainable construction materials. She has published the results from her research on self-healing asphalt materials, recycling of asphalt materials, and sustainable asphalt pavements in multiple peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering and the Journal of Construction and Building Materials. She is currently working on the use of bio-oil and biochar obtained from pyrolysis of the wood and forestry waste in asphalt and concrete pavement, respectively.

Course Title: Hot-Mix Asphalt Pavement Design, Maintenance and Rehabilitation

Course Description: This four-hour course is a deep dive into hot-mix asphalt pavement for design professionals. The course closely examines what constitutes and defines hot-mix asphalt, applications for use, codes and standards, types and causes of distress and damages, and maintenance programs.
