Thesewebinars are open to the public and is designed to qualify for 12.0 PDHs for professional engineers and 12.0 HSW continuing education hours for licensed architects in all states that allow this learning method. Please refer to specific state rules to determine eligibility.

John Barentine, PhD

Principal Consultant, Dark Sky Consulting, LLC

Mr. Barentine is the principal consultant at Dark Sky Consulting, LLC, and was formerly the Director of Public Policy for the International Dark-Sky Association. He earned a Ph.D. degree in Astronomy from the University of Texas at Austin, and he previously held staff positions at the National Solar Observatory, Apache Point Observatory, and the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. Throughout his career, he has been involved in education and outreach efforts to help increase the public understanding of science. He is a member of the American Astronomical Society and the International Astronomical Union, and he is a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society. The asteroid (14505) Barentine is named in his honor. His interests outside of astronomy and light pollution research include history, art and architecture, politics, law and current events.

Sonja Bochart, IIDA., LEED AP BD&C, WELL AP

Associate Principal with Shepley Bulfinch, in Phoenix, AZ

Ms. Bochart brings more than 20 years of experience creating meaningful, healthy environments that foster connection, healing, and well-being. An Associate Principal at Shepley Bulfinch, she also provides consulting services through Lens, the firm’s strategy, research, and innovation studio, which helps organizations navigate complex challenges through research-driven insights, innovative thinking, and specialized expertise in areas including biophilic design, regenerative design, wellness, and sustainability.

A leading voice in biophilic and regenerative design, Ms. Bochart has spent over a decade advancing biophilic design and has consulted on more than ten projects pursuing the Living Building Challenge. An accomplished speaker, educator, facilitator, and writer, Ms. Bochart promotes innovative approaches to holistic design focused on wellness, resilience, and sustainability. Her work connects research, design, and practice to create places that strengthen the relationship between people, place, and nature.

Nancy Clanton, PE, FIES, FIALD, LC, LEED Fellow

CEO, Visibility Innovations, LLC

Ms. Clanton is CEO of Visibility Innovations, LLC, a consulting firm specializing in sustainable and regenerative design. She is a registered professional engineer. Ms. Clanton is a member of the National Academy of Science committee on the assessment of solid state lighting. She is an International Standards Organization (ISO) 205 WG 7, USA delegate. Ms. Clanton received the 2018 Edison Report Lifetime Achievement Award, 2014 American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) Colorado Outstanding Woman Engineer Award, the International Clean Design Award, and the 2021 CU Engineering Distinguished Alumni Award.

Heather Holdridge, EIT

Associate AIA LEED Fellow, Associate Partner, Sustainability Director

Ms. Holdridge, LEED Fellow, EIT, Associate AIA is the Sustainability Director at Lake|Flato Architects. Leveraging her background in mechanical engineering, she directs all Lake|Flato teams in establishing sustainability goals. Ms. Holdridge devises strategies and systems to realize those goals under programs such as LEED, the 2030 Challenge, and the Living Building Challenge. She works closely with teams to evaluate passive systems and performs energy modeling throughout the design process. Ms. Holdridge received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin and a Master of Business Administration degree from The University of Texas at San Antonio.

 

Candace Lord, BPI

Vice President at The Green Cocoon, LLC

Ms. Lord has lived on the Northshore for most of her life and currently lives in Kingston, New Hampshire. She started as the office manager in 2011, running everything from the office to marketing and sales. However, she was promoted to Vice President in 2018 and now focuses mainly on sales. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Foreign Languages from Northeastern University. Ms. Lord is an SPFA and BPI certified professional.

When not at the office, Ms. Lord enjoys being outdoors and will partake in just about any physical activity. She also enjoys spending time with her two children and her dogs. Her energy and positive attitude bring out the best in people. Her life motto? “Life is what you make of it, so make something great!”

Jeffrey A. Smith

Founder and Owner of J.A. Smith Heating & Air Conditioning, Inc. of Warminster, PA

J.A. Smith Heating & Air Conditioning, Inc. has been in business over 39 years and specializes in the residential and light commercial HVAC market in southeastern Pennsylvania counties of Bucks, Montgomery and Philadelphia and adjacent counties in New Jersey. The company employs 50 people and serves the new construction, retro fit, and service/maintenance markets. Mr. Smith’s experience in the renewable energy HVAC field dates from involvement in numerous air source heat pump installations starting in the early 1970’s to the company’s current focus on closed loop geothermal installations. He holds an advanced CMS certification with the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society (RSES) and holds a Master HVAC contractor’s license with the state of New Jersey. In addition to running J.A. Smith Heating & Air Conditioning Mr. Smith has also been active in teaching HVAC related topics on a local and national level since 1981. The agencies that he has presented for include Refrigeration Service Engineers Society (RSES), National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI), American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI), National Association of Home Inspectors (NAHI), Home Builders Association (HBA), Pennsylvania Power and Light (PPL). He has also volunteered his time and served as president of the Electrical Association of Philadelphia (EAP), the chairman of the Middle Bucks Institute of Technology’s (MBIT) local advisory committee, and as secretary of the Business Referral Network of Delaware Valley (BRN).
