All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. HalfMoon Education Inc. must be able to prove attendance if either the attendee or HalfMoon Education Inc. is audited. 

Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

In the residential sector, Bales Energy Associates (BEA) provides mini-consults for heat pumps, energy recovery ventilators and other green heating and cooling systems. Over the last 15 years, Mr. Bales has taught high-performance heating systems workshops for an eight state region in the Northeast. BEA provides investment-grade energy audits and renewable energy system studies for commercial and institutional buildings and facilities. BEA takes a whole-systems approach to each facility or home, informed by the most current building-science standards. Mr. Bales is a registered professional engineer in Massachusetts, New York, Connecticut, Vermont, and Rhode Island. Services offered by BEA include HVAC, energy-related studies and design services, as well as training workshops for high-performance, energy-efficient mechanical, electrical, and enclosure systems for new and existing buildings.

Course Title: High Performance, All Electric HVAC: Air-to-Air and Air-to-Water Heat Pumps

Course Description: This three-hour course explains the science, operation and performance of air-source heat pumps. The course will assess equipment types, performance at various temperatures, recent improvements, and utilization in new construction and retrofits.

Learning Objectives: 

Learning Objective 1: Learners will be able to explain the basis of operation, representative coefficients of performance and cold weather operation of heat pumps.

Learning Objective 2: Learners will be able to determine applicability of unitary and ducted heat pumps for new and retrofit applications.

Learning Objective 3: Learners will be able to explore the relative benefits of air-to-air and air-to-water heat pumps.

Learning Objective 4: Learners will be able to investigate new developments of heat pumps capable of delivering higher hot water temperatures.
