All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. HalfMoon Education Inc. must be able to prove attendance if either the attendee or HalfMoon Education Inc. is audited.
Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

This webinar is open to the public and is designed to qualify for 6.0 PDHs for professional engineers, 6.0 HSW continuing education hours for licensed architects, and 6.0 HSW continuing education hours for landscape architects in all states that allow this learning method. Please refer to specific state rules to determine eligibility.

Priya Cook
Director, Green Schoolyards and CommunitiesMs. Cook is driven by a vision in which all people and the natural world can thrive. She works at this intersection as director of Green Schoolyards and Communities at the Children & Nature Network, advancing the Green Schoolyards Action Agenda and supporting locally led systems change for equitable nature connection. Ms. Cook co-led the Cities Connecting Children to Nature initiative at the National League of Cities for five years, directed front- and backcountry programs at City Kids Wilderness Project, and served on the Student Conservation Association Board of Directors, after years in public education and policy in Texas, Alaska, and DC. She thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail in 2009 and continues her outdoor adventures in the backyard and backcountry with her family. Ms. Cook holds a BA degree from the University of Notre Dame and an MPP from UT Austin’s LBJ School of Public Affairs.
Jane Tesner Kleiner
Landscape Architect, Ecologist, Environmental Educator and Disabilities AdvocateNature connections are at the core of Ms. Kleiner’s work to support healthy communities. She has had the privilege of working in city and county governments for parks, trails, and clean water, as well as private sector consulting to communities. Ms. Kleiner’s work in Michigan, Washington and Oregon has bridged ecological restoration in urban areas to create healthy environments in neighborhoods, schools, hospitals and public spaces. She thrives in building relationships and hearing from stakeholders and bringing nature to their doorsteps. Her most recent and on-going work, to move the Green Schoolyard movement forward, has brought her connections as co-author to national movements with the Children & Nature Network, Green Schoolyards America, and the Cities Connecting Children to Nature Initiative in Southwest Washington. Ms. Kleiner has been spending lots of time at recess, parent teacher meetings and meetings with community partners to build and sustain healthy environments for school staff, students, and communities. It can’t get better than helping students see nature up-close, to care and nurture their natural world. She owns Nature+Play Designs in Vancouver, Washington, and is the program manager for the regional coalition, Lower Columbia Nature Network.

Course Title: Green Schoolyard Planning & Design

Course Description: This six-hour course will identify schoolyard needs, wants and opportunities before exploring the design and creation of green schoolyard spaces. The course will explain the “greening” of schoolyard spaces, the creation of a schoolyard plan, how to incorporate play structures and additional elements and how they can be used as outdoor classrooms and community hubs.

Learners will be able to explore green schoolyard designs that serve multiple purposes, facilitate indoor/outdoor connections, and serve as a community hub.
Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to utilize play structures to serve various types of play and comply with all applicable standards, safety requirements and maintenance operations.
Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to create a schoolyard plan so that the space can satisfy multiple purposes, be utilized as outdoor classrooms and be utilized after school.
Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to incorporate additional elements into green schoolyard designs such as garden spaces and wooded areas.
