Egg Geo, LLCAfter serving in the US Navy nuclear power field, Jay Egg began a career in mechanical design engineering & contracting. Now, as an expert consultant, Jay sits on several technical code committees internationally; notably the technical committee for the IAPMO Uniform Mechanical Code. Jay has co-authored two McGraw-Hill Textbooks focused on geothermal HVAC technologies and continues to write curriculum and lecture on the merits of Clean Heating and Cooling technologies.

Mr. Rodriguez consults with municipalities, state agencies, private business and organizations on policy, sustainability, decarbonization, technology, placemaking, transportation, zoning, planning and development. Course Description: This 6.5 hour live lecture course covers the how the laws of thermodynamics apply to geothermal heat pumps, earth loop systems, design of geothermal systems, system type selection, the benefits of geothermal systems, and geothermal system maintenance.

Learners will be able to describe geothermal heat pump theory, including how the laws of thermal dynamics apply to geothermal heat pumps, the refrigeration cycle, calculating heating and cooling loads, how comfort is measured, and efficiency.
Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to explain the benefits of geothermal heat pump systems, including performance, cost savings, environmental advantages, and available incentives.
Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to describe how site conditions impact geothermal heat pump design, including site topography, soil conductivity, and site usage.
Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to differentiate closed loop systems and open loop systems, determine which system is appropriate for particular projects, size the unit and the loop, make heat loss calculations, write a Request for Proposal, and write driller specifications.
