Speakers

Brian D. Anderson

Attorney at Everson, Whitney, Everson & Brehm S.C.

Mr. Anderson is an experienced trial attorney who defends insurance companies and insureds, litigates insurance coverage issues, and practices appellate advocacy in state and federal courts. He also defends physicians and hospitals in civil litigation and administrative actions. Prior to joining the Everson Law Firm, Mr. Anderson was an Assistant Professor of Law teaching international and comparative law subjects, courses in legal research, and a required first-year course at the College of Law at Ohio Northern University. He was also engaged in law reform projects as a rule of law advisor in Eastern Europe, the Balkans, and sub-Saharan Africa. Mr. Anderson is a native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and a graduate with high honors from the Claude W. Pettit College of Law at Ohio Northern University, where he was Editor-in-Chief of the Law Review, a member of the Moot Court Board of Advocates, and was inducted into the Willis Society, the highest academic honor society at the College of Law. As a law student, he was a judicial extern to the Honorable Edmund A. Sargus, Jr., Federal Judge in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio. He also spent two summers working as a law clerk at a defense litigation firm in West Virginia. Mr. Anderson began his legal career as the law clerk and legal advisor to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Rwanda. He spent one year living in Kigali and working at the Supreme Court, and supporting a USAID-funded project supporting promoting reforms to laws and legal institutions in Rwanda.

Dean Dietrich

Mr. Dietrich has represented clients in the areas of lawyer ethics and professional responsibility for more than 45 years. He has represented attorneys in matters before the Wisconsin Supreme Court and the Office of Lawyer Regulation and consults with law firms and lawyers regarding compliance with the Rules of Professional Conduct. Mr. Dietrich has served as Chair of the State Bar Committee on Professional Ethics in addition to past service on the Committee appointed by the Wisconsin Supreme Court to review changes to the Wisconsin Rules of Professional Conduct for Attorneys. Mr. Dietrich currently serves as President-Elect of the State Bar of Wisconsin. He is a member of the ABA’s Center for Professional Responsibility and the Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers. He is a graduate of Marquette University Law School.

Krista G. LaFave

Gingras, Thomsen & Wachs LLP

Ms. LaFave is a trial lawyer at Gingras, Thomsen & Wachs LLP where she represents plaintiffs. Her practice focuses on civil rights litigation, employment disputes, and all types of personal injury cases, including automobile collisions, product liability, premises liability, and nursing home abuse and neglect cases. She initially worked in insurance defense and subrogation litigation. Ms. LaFave is a 2013 magna cum laude graduate of Tulane University Law School. She was selected to The National Trial Lawyers: Top 40 Under 40 and has been selected as a Super Lawyers Rising Star since 2018. She serves on the board of the Association for Women Lawyers. Prior to attending law school, Ms. LaFave worked in legal marketing and as a legal assistant.

Mark P. Maciolek

Attorney at Murphy Desmond S.C

Attorney Mark Maciolek represents clients in criminal defense and litigation matters in federal and Wisconsin state courts. Mr. Maciolek’s federal experience includes representing clients charged with complex commercial crimes, federal conspiracy crimes, trade secrets crimes, securities fraud crimes, other white collar crimes, federal firearms crimes, drug offenses, and other areas. He also represents individual and corporate clients in federal civil litigation matters, including federal civil lawsuits and bankruptcy adversary proceedings. Mr. Maciolek handles state criminal matters and related areas, such as juvenile defense. He also handles post-conviction proceedings, appeals, and habeas corpus matters, often in connection with Murphy Desmond’s immigration practice group. His state court civil litigation practice includes trial and appellate representation for individuals and corporate clients. In a rare quo warranto action, he successfully defended a public official from being removed from office. The case went all the way to the Supreme Court of Wisconsin in just 10 months. Cameron Weitzner

Associate at Gimbel, Reilly, Guerin & Brown LLP

Prior to joining the Gimbel, Reilly, Guerin & Brown LLP, Mr. Weitzner spent five years advocating for clients and litigating cases at the Wisconsin State Public Defender’s Office. He has represented clients pre-charge all the way to jury trial and has achieved successful outcomes for many clients. His motion practice resulted in cases being dismissed or evidence being suppressed because of unconstitutional police or government conduct. Mr. Weitzner received his J.D. from Marquette University in 2015 where he graduated in the top 25% of his class. While in law school, he was selected to compete on both Mock Trial and Moot Court teams. Mr. Weitzner was given the CALI award (given to the student with the highest grade) in both Privacy Law and Criminal Procedure. He graduated from Marquette with a specialization in litigation and was named a distinguished member of the Pro Bono Honor Society for providing over 120 hours of volunteer legal work. Since graduation, Mr. Weitzner has served as a coach for numerous teams in the Wisconsin Bar Association’s High School Mock Trial Competition. He is a frequent commentator on CourtTV and has been recognized as an Elite Lawyer and a Best Lawyer: Ones to Watch for White Collar Criminal Defense. Mr. Weitzner lives in Milwaukee with his significant other and likes to spend his free time fishing and golfing.
