All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. HalfMoon Education Inc. must be able to prove attendance if either the attendee or HalfMoon Education Inc. is audited.

Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

Continuing Education Credit Information

This webinar is open to the public and is designed to qualify for 6.5 CLE hours, including 1.0 ethics hour, for paralegals in Alaska. Paralegal certification is not required to participate in this course. 

This course has been approved by the National Federation of Paralegal Associations(NFPA) for 6.5 total CLE credits, which includes 5.5 general CLE credits and 1.0 ethics CLE credit. 

Attendance will be monitored, and attendance certificates will be available after the webinar for those who attend the entire course and score a minimum 80% on the quiz that follows the course (multiple attempts allowed).

Speakers

Maureen DeLauriea

Paralegal with UAF Community & Technical College Fairbanks, AK

Ms. DeLauriea has been in the legal field for over 35 years. Her legal career started in Chicago, Illinois. Ms. DeLauriea worked in Litigation, Family Law, Intellectual Property (patents and trademarks) and criminal, as well as attorney recruitment and summer associate programs. She moved to Fairbanks, Alaska and continued her career in the legal field. Law firms are smaller than in Chicago, but that did not stop her from furthering her career. Ms. DeLauriea learned more about the Administration of a law firm, intake of new clients, billing, payroll, and hiring new employees. She  attended the University of Alaska Fairbanks and earned a Paralegal degree. Ms. DeLauriea began teaching in the Paralegal Studies program in 2017 and has enjoyed sharing her knowledge and experience with the students. She currently works in a Law firm that handles Worker’s Compensation, Family Law, Probate, and Personal Injury. Ms. DeLauriea greatest accomplishment was getting her Paralegal Degree. Being able to share her knowledge with other paralegals and learning from other paralegals makes her adventure in the legal field more exciting.

Erica S. Lee

Paralegal/Founder of Remote Paralegal Solutions, LLC

Alaska, born and raised, Ms. Lee has spent over ten years working as a paralegal at both in-house and remote firms within various areas of law. She has a great track record of working remotely and operates from a fully equipped home office. Ms. Lee has a B.S. in Paralegal Studies from Liberty University and an A.A.S. in Paralegal Studies from the University of Alaska Anchorage. Throughout her schooling, she remained on the Dean’s List and graduated with Honors. She has worked in various areas of law, including transactional law, corporate law, real estate law, family law, education law, and criminal law. Ms. Lee has also worked in these various areas of law in multiple states, to include Alaska, California, Georgia, North Carolina, and Utah. From the spark of an idea to the realization of a dream, the journey of Remote Paralegal Solutions, LLC began. After her many years in the legal industry, a single moment of inspiration and a fierce determination to succeed allowed her to embark on her own entrepreneurial journey. At Remote Paralegal Solutions, LLC, Ms. Lee and her team specialize in all aspects of the legal process for family law, corporate law, transactional law, probate, estate planning, and real estate. Their many offerings include, but are not limited to, revising, finalizing, and filing prepared documents, drafting documents, performing legal research, and forming companies according to local, state, and federal laws. When she is not working, you will find her spending time with her husband and two children. She loves being outdoors, and enjoys going camping, hiking, kayaking, hunting and fishing. Michael Rose

Attorney and Partner with North Star Law Group Anchorage, Alaska

Michael Rose is lifelong resident of Anchorage, receiving his undergraduate at UAA, where he led its accomplished Speech and Debate Team to victories across the U.S., including a national championship, and internationally. From the early years of his practice, Mr. Rose has litigated cases throughout Alaska, most notably as part of a trial team that won a $51.3 million verdict in a business litigation case. He maintains a varied civil litigation and trial practice, and has litigated cases in both federal and state court in Alaska, including arguing in front of the Alaska Supreme Court. In 2016, Mr. Rose was awarded UAA’s prestigious “Emerging Leader” Alumni of Distinction Award.

Deana M. Waters,  M.Ed., ACP

Director, American Association for Paralegal Education

Ms. Waters graduated from the University of Montana with a Bachelor’s in English and History in 1995 and an Associate of Applied Science in Legal Assisting in 1998. In 2020, she earned a Masters of Education in Online Innovation and Design from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. She was employed as a paralegal with a private law firm in Fairbanks, Alaska, for 15 years, where she specialized in civil litigation, family law, workers’ compensation and collections. Ms. Waters earned the Certified Paralegal (CP®) credential in 2005 and the Advanced Paralegal Certification (ACP®) in Discovery in 2007. In 2015, she was appointed program coordinator and faculty for UAF’s Community &Technical College Paralegal Studies program. She teaches Introduction to Paralegal Studies, Ethics for Paralegals, Civil Procedure, Torts, Family Law, Constitutional Law and Advanced Legal Writing. Ms. Waters has served various roles in NALA-The Paralegal Association since 2010, including the Continuing Education Council, regional director, ACP taskforce and school relations taskforce. She also serves as a regional director for the American Association for Paralegal Education.
